Nathan Chen

“These are not show costumes, but sleek, modern interpretations of athleticism.”

This.

I already see so many people being negative about Nathan's costumes on social media (and no doubt on these boards, too). :rolleye:
I think one of the reasons is, that people are so accustomed to those flashy show-type costumes and that's what they expect a costume to look like, and it's made them sort of narrow-minded.

I for one applaud Nathan for creating his own 'brand' and not submitting to those well-trodden ideas of what a skating costume is supposed to look like.

And frankly, the typical FS costume makes me think of carnival or a cheesy show and I can't count how often I couldn't take a skater and their program seriously because of their costume choice.

I like the old one more. This one is so lose.

Good luck! no 4S planned thankfully.

I enjoy all the Vera roasting though. One thing most FS fans seem to agree with. :laugh2:

I like this this top is more than orange stripe - think looser, more flowing goes better with Land of All program

Good luck Nathan!:luv17::love::luv17:

Maybe he read all the negative comments on social media, and since he seems to have a whole arsenal of Vera costumes just as last season, he simply chose another one ;p.
Or, since it's so loose, maybe it's just a sweater to wear on top of the other one for warm-up, lol.

Good luck! no 4S planned thankfully.

Yes! Thankfully indeed.

I enjoy the drama of the score. And he was freaking amazing. I can't argue against those GOE on his jumps tbh.

That was amazing to watch. Great to see all the jumps come together so beautifully! :hap93:

I still think he can milk the music and audience more in the first half but I do love how the music builds and how his energy grows at the end. :hap57:

Cannot wait for Worlds!

Wow, that program was honestly PERFECT! I've never seen such a difficult program executed as well as Nathan did today :love:

Wow, what an amazing performance he put out there, even Nathan himself couldn't fight that big smile creeping onto his face in the athlete's lounge, while usually he tries to look cool and unmoved (or at least that's my impression).

I love the fact that they edited the music towards the end, which gives him more time for the last jumping pass and subsequent ChSq and feels less rushed, because I have worried about that a lot, especially since he's doing a combination as his last jumping pass.

I could also see all those little, sometimes subtle changes in the choreo moves throughout the program, and an effort to add transitions, which was great!

Lol at that woman above the KnC area screaming hysterically "Nathan I love you!"

I kinda doubt Nathan reads or cares about the costume comments on social media.

Obviously. I was just joking ;).

So um, he always travels with several spare costumes, in case one of them doesn't work out? :)

That alternative costume hasn't been camel-spin-proofed though...

Mens FS press conference: https://twitter.com/rockerskating/status/1089665792080265216?s=21

Chen: Nationals is no joke. I'm sitting here with two of the best skaters in the US and the world. I'm extremely happy about how much work I've put in, and I'm extremely honored that I'm sitting here with these two.

Chen: I really don't mind the training atmosphere that I'm in. There aren't that many options that you get to skate at Yale. I'm thankful that Yale is giving me the ice time to continue pursuing my dreams outside of school.

Chen: Quad sal was a pretty last minute decision. I did it a couple of times in the 20-minute warmup, but I didn't feel it was comfortable to put in here.

Chen: The lutz was supposed to come after the flip, so we did change the program. I did not do it well at the Final, so I thought it was a smart choice to put it first before the flip.
