Nathan Chen

Ah, it’s starting. I trust Nathan but I don’t want anybody to jinx him so I will personally be thinking of him as the underdog at Worlds. Nothing is guaranteed and opponents shouldn’t be underestimated. But regardless of what happens he’s had an INCREDIBLE year and I don’t want anybody taking that away from him regardless of whether he wins or not. So proud of him.

Let’s end it on a good note Nate

I never assume he's going to win anything and am always stressed and worried despite the fact that he wins a lot, so I'm not thinking it now. :laugh2: Regardless he had a good season and doesn't have to win everything. Like Raf, I wish he had more time off to train for worlds. He had a lot more time for nationals.

I’m also always stressed and worried!

We weren’t even assuming he would win IdF ... and Nathan said he prefers to be the underdog anyways.

He gets 2 weeks from his spring break to the men’s short program. Relatively similar time that he trained for Nationals but I think he’ll probably leave school earlier than that to get more time in with Raf.

A bit random but apparently Michelle Kwan will be at Yale to pick up an award on April 3rd. Wonder if Nathan will be there or does he have ice shows at that time?

Nathan has Osaka Stars on Ice 3/29-3/31, so I assume he will back at Yale by then.

I wish that, too. But before spring break he will have midterm exams...:slink:

There’s ways around that, for sure they can make exceptions for him to take it earlier or later if he wanted to. He would have notified them of his plans months in advance about Worlds so if he feels he needs the extra time, they will give it to him. But he may not think it’s necessary & just stay until March 8th. We’ll see.

I predict a 4S at worlds :drama: Jackie mentioned he was landing them fine in practice. I guess he just didn't feel quite comfortable though. But I think by worlds he will put it in.

For sure he’ll bring it back, I think it was less about being comfortable and more strategic in that why pull out all your aces in a competition that you can sleep walk through and win? I think he tried to do the layout from GPF so that he could do it clean in a competitive setting at Nationals and will now be adding in more from his arsenal for the biggest competition. Who knows, he may be practicing the loop too just in case he needs to pull it out last minute.

Anyways, here’s a clip of 10 year old Nathan meeting his fellow Yale alum Sarah Hughes in 2010. I love that every interview from when he was a kid, he could barely keep eye contact lol.

Kung Fu Panda forever! He was so cute.

Nathan really wanted clean programs at Nationals, so makes sense he omitted 4S. I'm really not sure about 4lo though - and hoping he stays healthy:pray:
