Nathan Chen

Translation of Raf interview from “Moscow Figure Skater”:

‘This year I was a happy coach, because my three students, if we count Voronov, who is in our Sokolniki all triple jumped in his 11 years, reached the final Grand Prix. If an athlete wants to achieve a result, then it is almost impossible to hinder him. He will look for ways, will look for his programs, his elements, his coach. For success, it is very important that the athlete has complete confidence in the coach, and not engaged in the activity behind his back.’

Always honest and straight to the point, that’s for sure lol. He brings up good points, it really is silly that people in charge of making the rules in figure skating are not required to have any actual experience in the field and don’t even consult those who do. I can’t think of any other legitimate profession where that would be allowed. Not sure how that’s not been addressed or why other coaches don’t speak up on it.

If they don’t put that boy in bubble wrap until Worlds so he doesn’t injure himself...

I hope he leaves for Montreal this weekend

From ‘Interview with mothers of Samsonov, Shcherbakova, Trusova’ thread:

For fans of 14-year-old Sasha Trusova, it is not a secret - the idol of the athlete is Nathan Chen. He was 17th after the short program at the 2018 Olympic Games, and in the free, for the first time in the history of the Olympics, he performed six quad jumps and outscored the Japanese Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu, who was second in free, by almost 9 points. True, in the end, hewas only fifth.

“Strong is not the one who never fell, but the one who fell and got up. We try to think like this,” said Svetlana Trusova. “Nathan Chen knows how to take risks, this is Sasha's idol. She always wanted to jump quads like him.”
