Nathan Chen

I think nobody does a camel spin with a leg that high. A spiral is different from a spin. No need to keep your free leg more than 90 degrees in a camel spin. 90° is required.

I'm on a flight so I cannot link to YouTube, but take a look at Alex Johnson's camel or Paul Wylie's. If you want to go back to the king of the camel go back to Robin Cousins. It can definitely go above 90 degrees and it looks gorgeous when done right.

ETA: Just want to clarify that this is by no means a big deal or something that detracts from my love of Nathan's skating. Just a small thing I wish he would work on, because I know he could achieve it.

Thanks to aboutNathan for always sharing!

I like the CBC commentary a lot! NBC Nathan commentary can pretty much be summarized as:

‘The quads are coming!’
‘That was so good!’
‘THIS IS IT GUYS’
Swagger
‘He is a god’

CBC always has good commentary. And I like how they mention things being difficult that don't really look that difficult and I'm not even aware that are difficult. On top of mentioning things like his blade work, how well he performs and using his body and how he moves on ice. It's nice to hear something a little more in depth than mentioning quads.

Depth of NBC commentary: ‘he makes it look so easy’ and ‘that almost didn’t even look like a quad’ :p

Kurt is one of my favorites, so his appreciation of Nathan always makes me feel good. Carol Lane is always ridiculously complimentary and we all know she's brutally honest: if Nathan's programs had no artistry we would have heard that a long time ago. Our baby has developed a whole new style all to himself :hap10:

Yes. I also love CBC commentary and Kurt’s comment about Nathan.😍
and they said more detailed comments than NBC. NBC always said about ”Quad is coming” lol

Super happy with my own skate! But here you can see a super happy coach and his two Men one of which became a world champ for the second time in a row! This competition was very successful for our team! All of us including @mariahsk8rbell and @ggobugi_eunsoo finnished top 10 here in Saitama! And that's a wrap for this season of figure skating.

I love CBC commentary too, they always point out the things that I myself see and love about Nathan's skating, for instance: they always acknowledge his dancing abilities, the quality in his movements and the distinctiveness of his choreo style. :luv17:

Yale Daily News: Chen ’22 wins second world championship

“Mentally, I knew that I was capable of doing two relatively clean programs,” Chen told the News. “I had been training really well heading into this competition at the Whale, and that definitely played into my confidence.”
Chen told the News that while he had prepared for a more technically difficult program, he ultimately opted for a slight downgrade in routine difficulty to ensure clean and complete execution. He skated another mistake-free program with four quadruple jumps. The choice to marginally decrease difficulty for consistency and control, Chen said, “played really well to my favor.”
For Chen, the immediate future is still up for discussion. He said that he was “excited” to get back to Yale and finish the semester, and that, for now, any decisions on training would be taken day by day and in consultation with his coaching team.

Belated congratulations to Nathan.
I’m just dropping by because I just saw the CBC interview and how I love the part he talked about Yuzuru. I love the respect these two have towards each other.

Supposedly only the people in the front row seats were supposed to be able to toss things onto the ice. But apparently many ignored the rules. LOL

The throwing is restricted not only tot he first row but to the Premium seats which are the first 5 rows. Some people may have ran down from other seats to that area to throw, though.
Premium seats were only available on two sides: side opposite the judge and the short side on the judges ’ right hand side.

So happy about Nathan's victory and a successful season!! :yahoo:
Thanks everyone for sharing video links here, it's been really helpful to catch up Nathan news.

I came across this on twitter - that Land of All is about pro-immigration and was written for a movie specifically about Mexican migrants trying to cross the border. "when announcing that his FS music would be Woodkid’s “Land of All,” he expressed his very specific hope that the program would encourage people to think about immigration. Nathan, son of immigrants, chose a song from a movie about Mexican immigrants trying to cross the U.S. border. He announced in July. (Recall what was being uncovered then.)"

The part about the orange vera costume is a stretch, but was really surprised at the meaning behind his FS. I had no idea and it just makes me love the program and respect Nathan even more.

I wonder why he doesn't talk about it more (maybe he did earlier the season but I missed it?), perhaps he felt pressured to stay more politically neutral? I can see how his stance could be extremely controversial in the US given the current state of things.

In interviews Nathan has stated he isn't trying to send a political message with his program. I don't know where that person heard that.

The Free Skating to the dark song “Land of All” by Woodkid – from the movie soundtrack “Desierto” – is a strong contrast to the Short Program, which is exactly what Nathan was looking for. “I originally chose the piece for the long because I needed something that contrasted the short,” Nathan noted. “The vocals are really interesting too: they are very deep and I haven’t really heard a voice like that before and I thought it was really cool. We chose that music and I gave it to Marie [-France Dubreuil] – she liked it as well – and we started choreographing more towards the sound of the music and not really the story of the music. In the music it is just, already, really deep and haunting and that is something that we wanted to create and then have it pick up at the end to make it more powerful with Sam Chouinard who did a great job choreographing that little last section. I guess, the story of the piece is different to what I was trying to interpret – it has a lot more layers to it. The music is the soundtrack to a movie called “Desierto” and the movie is about immigration into the US. Obviously, I don’t want to make my programs about this or anything political but, at the same time, just because it has that deep and darker meaning requires me to add another layer to my skating,” he explained.
