He seems to have gained some weight since it's the off-season and to enjoy
some sweets to relieve the stress from preparing for the finals.:laugh:
 
Not sure if it's weight gain ... but they look a bit too short and tight, causing all that bunching:p

His proportions have changed somewhat in the past year or so ... his navy blue shirt looks quite small now too, but that seems less of an issue than the pants.

He probably gained some weight, it's normal for the first year college student. Freshman 15?:laugh:

Nice write-up, sounds like she had a great experience at the warm-up and meeting Nathan:

‘It was during the pre-show warm-up I got the chance to meet both Nathan Chen and Vincent Zhou. As a journalist and Miss Nebraska USA 2015, I’ve gotten the opportunity to meet some incredible people. But I’ll admit, I was probably a bit more star struck than I originally planned for. Nathan was very sweet, genuine and humble.’

Also:

‘Nathan’s Mom and older sister were actually at the show to support him and it was so endearing watching their relationship. It really reminded me of all the sacrifices my Mom made for me more than a decade ago when I pursued this sport. I have so much respect for all the Moms who do anything and everything to help their children reach their ultimate goal.’

There was all that snacking during studying though... ;)
I mean, we don't really know how much he has to watch what he eats and I wouldn't make too much of one sentence in an article, that didn't even sound like it was necessarily a direct quote from Nathan, but could have just as well been something the journalist read into the whole story based on his preconceived notions about figure skaters.
Given the level of exercise elite skaters get on a daily basis, I'm surprised they have to watch what they eat at all, actually I'd rather expect them struggling to eat enough, lol. (in terms of calories I mean, obviously they have to make sure that their diet is healthy and balanced, so that they get enough needed nutrients and stay fit and strong)

Not sure how strict he is with his diet. One of the only times I recall him saying he limits certain foods is from 2015 TSL interview, when he said he can’t eat In-N-Out Burger and Yogurtland that often.

But he seems to have a sweet tooth and has a candy drawer:), he mentioned that he has enjoyed eating out in New Haven including pizza, and someone on instagram took a photo with him at Shake Shack. Also he said his favorite late-night snack while studying is fried chicken. So while I assume he mostly eats healthy, he appears to have treats too.
 
The reason all these pants don't fit well, last year or now, is because they aren't made of stretchable fabric meant for an athlete to skate in, IMHO. The Stole the show grey-ish pants he wore at the beginning of 2016-17 were the last off-the-Macy's-rack pants with reasonable fit, perhaps? And that black shirt, too, in its Stole the show days, actually *fit* and didn't bunch up. The good ol' days... Now I'm thankful when the pockets of the off-the-rack pants don't bulge out the sides.

Ah well. One more quirk to love about Nathan. :laugh:

Compare with the salted caramel ones Janice made 5 days ago! :bow: :bow: Such an impressive family.

I could have sworn there was an interview where he said he had to watch what he ate, but that could only be leading up to major competitions.
