Yup, especially because Gogolev will be a senior by Beijing. A bit worried that Nathan doesn't seem to be learning new combinations with his competition raising their tech.

New combinations don't really make much of a difference in BV, though; it's easier to raise BV by adding a new quad. Other guys have to go for new combos because they don't have as many quads.

Besides, how do you know Nathan isn't learning new combos? People have seen him do 3F-4T and there's video of him doing 4T-3T-3Lo and 4T-1Eu-3F. I think he'll eventually want to try 4T-4T in the SP because that's worth the risk.
 
I mean, who is outdoing him BV wise while he's training an hour a day? Nobody really. I think his plan is actually pretty smart in order to give his body a rest before training heavily for the Olympics and raising his BV (mostly talking about adding in the 4S reliably again and whatever else he might do) Three more years is a long time in figure skating.

As for competitors, isn't it scarier for them to know he's not even at full strength but still beating them right now and they have no real idea what he's capable of when he starts at it full time? :laugh: If anything people need to catch up to him tech wise. Working on his overall skating should be more the goal. He has the tech side down.
 
Is the best strategy 4 years later still to out-jump everybody though? He’s not going to be an 18 anymore. Somehow I have a feeling that building on the tech he already has (and he has a LOT) and improving the quality of the rest of his skating might be a smarter way to win. And I personally am much more interested in that than seeing him learn a new combo, especially given how limited his training is.
