Nathan Chen

This is a copy of what I wrote in the Shoma FF:

On twitter there's a lot of buzz regarding remarks Shoma made in the Colantotte interview where he discusses his summer training camp. He says his current training situation in Japan is tough because he doesn't have high level training mates, so he's excited about the training camp because there will be skaters at his level there.

The camp is located overseas and will begin around mid to late June, and after a month he will head back to Japan for The Ice before returning to that overseas training location for the rest of the summer. As there are only a few rinks in the world where there are skaters of his caliber many people believe he may be spending the summer with Raf. And it does sound like the scheduling would work with so many of Raf's skaters also participating in The Ice.

Shoma will be possibly training with Raf

Stephen is moving to Raf

Raf will be really busy this summer! (and beyond)

I think that Shoma is more likely to go to Tammy G. But if he were to Raf it would be interesting :hap57: (I remember that Raf commented that Nathan was happy when Mika spent a few days with them on the ice :agree2: )

I read somewhere about Gogolev (TSL?) I think Raf said "he doesn't accept skaters who compete with their skaters"

Thank you all for continuing to share Nathan's media :thank:

Stephen will fit right in - he even wore an Off-White shirt at the Junior Worlds gala:)

He and Nathan also have similar costumes, and Woodkid and Stole the Show programs for both!

Maybe Nathan is his idol? Nathan's "Stole the Show" exhibition was pretty well known and came first.

I don’t think what happened with Alina in the Olympic season is likely to happen among the men though.

Stole the Show was choreographed by MFD and Sam!

Beijing 2022 is 1000 days away - which is both a lot of time, but not *that* much time, depending on how you view it.

Hello everyone! I’m new to the thread and GS. To honor the occasion of the 1000 day-countdown to the Olympics held in my hometown, I just want to pop in and say hi here:) (But actually I’ve been lurking around for a whole season now-that’s what we all do don’t we ;P)

Some random rambling about how I get here: I started watching ballet before I got into figure skating, and before the 2017/18 season I only watched skating haphazardly, seeing it as an (unfortunately at that time to me less appealing) alternative to ballet on a different medium, the ice. In late 2017, CoR got my eyes on Nathan, who impressed me with both Nemesis (“wow this kid can dance”) and MLD (“wow this kid can pull off the Rite of Spring”). Then one by one I came across his earlier programs, and was just blown away by his prodigious raw talent in musicality and performance. This past season I followed him pretty closely and had my fair share of stress and exhilaration. However, Nathan being my favorite men’s skater of this generation doesn’t prevent me from internally grumbling his little flaws here and there, but the potential for improvement is also what makes him (and every skater!) so exciting to watch.

TL;DR: I’m excited to join the online figure skating community and Nathan’ fanfest here, and wish we have amazing seasons to come!

Men usually don't reach their physical peaks until their twenties so it's rare for someone in their teens to win OGM. Dick Button was 18 and still holds the record for youngest OGM winner.

I'm sure Raf likes having high level men around to push Nathan so that he doesn't become complacent. Last year it was Kolyada. Now Stephen. Maybe Shoma, too.

Welcome, Lutzdance!

Welcome LutzDance! Nathan is gifted with so much talent, it will exciting to see his improvement in the coming seasons.

I think Stephen moving to Raf could be a positive thing for Nathan. He can help give him that extra push and motivation.

Realistically, Stephen won’t be competitive with him until a few seasons, at least. There’s the Raf needs two years with a skater, though not sure how that timeline applies here, considering Stephen is still growing. He will still be so young at the time of the Olympics - he turns 17 only like a month and a half before.
