Nathan Chen | Page 822 | Golden Skate

Nathan Chen

I guess it really is a difficult entry to the spin, remember a commentator (can't remember who) saying that.

? He does the most common and most standard spin entry of all, it's the one beginner skaters start out with actually. He just slipped away on his toe-pick, that seems to happen to every skater once in a while, nothing to do with the entry steps (unless you count the one turn when it happened :P).
I think he was just channelling his inner Patrick Chan... https://twitter.com/pchiddy/status/893818284260413441?lang=de

Yeah, it's almost the same belly flop that Patrick did. I think that maybe the muscle memory from last year's boys number helped him react so quickly.

Nathan was amazing today! Okay guess it was yesterday, I just got home and it’s been a long day lol.

Next to Me - performance level was fantastic and some of the more lyrical parts are really quite lovely. The fast section is so energetic, really loved it.

90s number! Was very much looking forward to this, and it was even better and more entertaining in person. Looked like everyone really enjoyed performing this. He was so cute here:luv17::luv17:

Caravan - so happy that I got to see this program! Step sequence was a highlight, it flew by in what seemed like only a few seconds. Facial expressions were great and very cute.

Nathan got the loudest cheers, the audience loved him!

Only (slight) negative were his ill-fitting clothes. The fit looks even worse in person! But seems that he doesn’t really care:)

That navy shirt has gotten enough mileage. I think it's time to put it out to pasture.

I think that photo was from bowling - beer in the background :)

But I would think he’s back at home this week.

The pants already looked so bad in this video. Wondering if he feels comfortable moving around in those. Hopefully only two more shows left. He either needs to lose some freshman 15 weight gains or get some new ones for ATS and shows in Japan.

Thanks for the report, oatmella.

Nathan is a highlight of the show in almost every review. Some reviews from FSU

From Barbara, the person who posted the above Next to Me San Jose show

“Nathan seems to have more joints than he should. How does he create that many angles with his arms and legs? He's fascinating to watch.”

Albany show from Claire Cloutier

“Nathan of course was a highlight--it was my first time seeing "Caravan" live, and he performed it with lots of energy and a sense of joyfulness. I'm pretty sure he landed some quads in his first number. One thing I noticed this time, seeing Nathan live, is that he has quite his own style of skating. Rather than depending on the long, deep flowing edges of traditional skating, everything he does is fast, short, sharp bursts of movement. He has great speed and edge skills, although not necessarily the power of some of the other skaters, perhaps because of that distinctive style of movement he has. I love that he brings something different, something inventive.”

Nathan is briefly mentioned in an interview with Patrick Chan

Look at Nathan Chen in the U.S… I think he’s a great representative of Chinese-American and Chinese-North-American athletes because he’s an extremely talented athlete — explosive, very slender and he’s just, like, a cool guy, man! (smiles). He’s going to Yale and is a smart kid, really well-versed with a good personality...

Nice words about Nathan from Patrick.

He mentions change in skater body type (now slimmer) and that Nathan is very slender. Nathan has a small frame, narrow shoulders and hips - which would make any weight gain more apparent.

Don’t think losing weight (and no way he gained near 15 lol) would really help with those black pants, they were already ill-fitting two years ago:p. The rise and overall length of these well-worn pants are too short.
