Nathan Chen

I did see some of the GP stories, like Ting and Tomoki.

Well, it’s Nathan ... is this really surprising :p. My friend who follows him, didn’t know his post was referring to his upcoming competitions.

I went down the GP entries list and I'm pretty sure every other Team USA skater/team made an IG video for the GP announcement. Ashley and Tim made an entry instead of a story and Green/Parsons didn't have one because they are a new team. Nathan deserves to be dragged for this.

It's expected that the senior men who haven't competed their FS would miss the FOFS breakfast. This is so widely known I assume USFS itself publicized this info--even the Japanese fan sites posted about it, made their fans attending US nationals aware not to expect the senior men at FOFS.

It's unjust to view this as some dereliction of duty on the part of Nathan or any of the senior men. If anything Nathan is too much of a slave to duty and honoring his debts, IMHO.

ETA: he made an IG post about the GP assignments. that is sufficient and then some. Why did he need to post an IG story, when he already put up an IG post? Is there some hall monitor wearing a badge taking names of kids who dare to run in the hall or something? :/

I had deleted my post quite shortly after posting. Like a minute after posting :p

Obviously not quickly enough.

It is well known that whichever discipline hasn't competed yet is exempt from elbow rubbing and inquiring after grandchildren at the FOFS or its variant at Skate America or whatever. This is longstanding. In one of the past years Nationals, none of the ice dancers who hadn't competed in the free dance showed up. Where was this consternation then?

On the bright side, thanks for reminding me to keep my own complaining mouth zipped for the next 24 hours. Nathan does more than enough for the sport and his federation. :/

It's not a big deal but it is a form of rebellion that you wouldn't see any of the other Team USA members attempt. This is where Karen should post a saucy comment on his IG.

Well, I guess I'm not a mind reader, unlike some who post here.

Possibly he was honoring the intent and not the letter of the order to publicize the GP series. Did you receive a cc of the email from USFS ordering everyone to post an IG STORY and not an IG post?

Look, I value the contributions of sheetz and oatmella (autocorrect wants you to be oatmeal, sorry) and the people who post here and keep me up to date when i'm on my sabbaticals from skating, but it bothers me that you read such things into his motives. I guess I'm guilty of the same thing, thinking he participated in the Mike Weiss show not only out of a desire to give back but also from a sense of duty, since he himself said he wished he could some day help young skaters the way Weiss helped him. It's more bothersome to me when the mind-reading reveals some sort of negative character trait, probably. But I will no more change your mind than you change mine.

P.S. if this rebellion is noteworthy, i guess my standards for flouting orders are different, because i grew up in the era of Nicole Bobek breaking and entering and Christopher Bowman's drug addiction. Bobek even did an entire tour of show skating against USFS orders. maybe it is true that without Tonya Harding to set the scale, we have to react to every little perceived deviation from THE STANDARD. he made an IG post instead of an IG story-- how dare he!

I think you are overreacting.

This really isn’t a big deal.

I have posted on here thousands of times.

:luv17::luv17::love::love::luv17::luv17: type posts, etc.

One questionable post (that I deleted like one minute later) sure gets a quick response.

Interesting.

If you are referring to me, I assure you that my "quick" response was merely by happenstance.

As you know, the thread moves very fast -- I don't even try to read every post, although I keep an eye on the thread in general (often not seeing stuff for the first time until hours or days after it was posted).

By chance, I happened to see your post as well as sheetz's as two things for which I had (innocuous) responses.

I had no reason not to reply, given that it was impossible for me to anticipate that you were going to delete your post.

Anyway: I have deleted my reply to you, plus my quoting of your post.

Everyone happy now?

Thanks Ice Coverage for sharing the stories with us. I think oatmella was commenting on how things went in an unexpected way rather than calling out someone. Feel free to share with us whatever story or thoughts you have about Nathan.

oatmella was just teasing. It is understandable that skfan to be in a very protective mood for Nathan if she read two or three teasing posts in a row. Oatmella was so fast in deleting what she originally posted. If it was not Ice Coverage’s reply, I had no idea what had been posted. I guess that is where the misunderstanding come from.

But I have to disagree with sheetz in that he was probably very exhausted from all the traveling, he probably just arrived and not in the mood of taking some video, so he decided to “shortchange” us with an old picture, but he did have some smart caption, or maybe he just want to show off his caption to secure his king of caption status :luv17:. He is rebellious sometimes, but I don’t think we as fans have the fortune to witness it a lot, probably only with his hair. It is Raf who probably deal with that part of Nathan sometimes.
