Prize money can be extra to appearance fees.

The Japan Open Announcement includes verbiage which would appear to prohibit offering appearance fees:
https://www.isu.org/docman-document...7821-2018-japan-open-announcement-060818/file
No additional prize money will be given to any of the competitors, either eligible or ineligible, directly or indirectly for this competition.

But CaOI is its own show just like DOI, PIW, The Ice, etc. so that it is able to offer the skaters a separate appearance fee.

The Shanghai Trophy Announcement does not contain the same sort of verbiage.

If he really cared about less time away from school, he wouldn’t be flying 15+ hrs to Japan from the east coast just to do an FS during school time in the first place .......

All skaters try to go to one competition before the Grand Prix season to work the bugs out. I think USFS requires one fall competition before the GP season. Even Ashley had to do a club competition in 2017 before the start of the season, in lieu of a CS.

He has to do one at least for his FS to decide if anything needs to change before then. For example, other senior skaters will be going to challenge series. However even in US Classic that requires taking off several days before there is a gap between the SP and FS plus required practice sessions. Not to mention the altitude makes it hard for him to go all out. Better to be a competition at sea level.

There are some things that you just can't know unless you are in competition. This is the most pragmatic way of doing that.

Maybe JO is more an obligation than a choice. Hope he has a better FS there than last year:)

any a little annoy he still hasn't announce his music or what type of program is he about to skate too?
He never announced his program before the official schedule. And every time when we have some information before he announced, the spoiler were leaked from other persons, not by him. It is quite normal:laugh:

Not really because that's standard procedure for him. He doesn't usually announce his programs in advance.

Doesn't mean it's not annoying though.

So happy for Nathan that he's getting along with so many people/skaters in Montreal (and elsewhere too) and they're so welcoming and inviting him over for food. :)

I see mango in littlelocavore tweet, not watermelon?

I’m not annoyed - but maybe impatient :)

But honestly it doesn't bother me at all. Maybe because we've been seeing him in shows all summer? The Fam will have their reunion at The Ice in only a couple of weeks so we'll be sure to see a lot of IG updates from Romain. Nathan will probably perform at least his SP there, and we'll get to see his debut as a "professional" choreographer. Hopefully there will be video soon.

Even though it's technically a work trip Nathan's time in Montreal feels like one of those vacations visiting friends/family where you go out to eat with different people every night.

ATS will be broadcast in Japan on 8/29, the same day (but different channel) as The Ice-Nagoya

No fan meeting that I know of.

Based on last year's schedule it looks like Nathan needs roughly 4 weeks from choreographing to debut of his programs. So it's a good bet he'll debut the SP at The Ice and the FS at Sun Valley.
