Update on Nathan's injury and school situation:
Chen did not compete in the world championships due to an undisclosed injury.

“I’m still working through [the injury],” Chen said. “At some point, I will disclose more information about it but right now, no. I’m not able to do the same stuff I would do in competition but shows don’t require the same level of technique. I’m doing what I can do right now.”

Chen, 22, said he planned to go back to Yale in the fall. He has two more years of school left.

“From there, I’ll decide what I want to do,” he said. “It’s still pretty TBD right now [his plans to keep skating competitively]. Right now, I’m doing Stars on Ice, then when I get back to school, I’ll be preoccupied, but I skated before when I was at school, so it’s not something that’s off the charts.”

Just like Nathan to keep us guessing about his injury and future plans. He has me a bit worried about the injury.

Here’s the best view yet of the opening of the Elton John medley:

Interview for SLC Weekly
Excerpt:
In 2018, our then-county mayor, Ben McAdams, designated May 16 as "Nathan Chen Day" in Salt Lake County. Might we look forward to your return visit each May so we can mark the occasion?
Absolutely! I will be back in SLC coincidentally right around that time for Stars on Ice.

What do you look forward to doing when you get back to Salt Lake?
I'm a huge Utah Jazz fan, and that is a great reason to visit.

Any tips for newcomers to Salt Lake City?
Of course, enjoy the mountains and snow! I lived really close to H-rock, so I would walk around that from time to time. Utah has a lot to offer, and sports/recreation is abundant.

Do you crave any Utah foods?
Crown Burger was always be a go-to. I'm a fan of Red Iguana as well.

What big goal is next on your list?
Graduate college!

Nathan will be interviewed for the NBC News Special "Inspiring America"

Sounds like this series will be shown among many news platforms - Today Show, Evening News, etc. so I'm unsure when and where to find the Nathan segment, but I think the series of interviews airs the first week of May - hopefully they will list it all clearer for us soon!

Some Hartford videos. Nathan appears to have ditched his Elton John jump suit for his Olympic Rocketman shirt. Also removed the flowy white shirt from the Space Song number.

Nathan in the Yale news:
Most famously, current student Nathan Chen ’24 dominated the figure skating competition in Beijing, becoming only the second American man since 1988 to win the individual gold.

While Chen took a leave of absence in the run-up to the Olympics, he spent two years at Yale while also competing in (and winning) major national and world competitions — an accomplishment made possible with the unflagging support of Yale Athletics.

“Some of my friends who are competitive athletes also decided to pursue the academic and athletic life, but for them the logistics were not as simple. Yale was extremely accommodating,” Chen said last year. “As soon as I decided to attend, the athletic director, Vicky Chun, told me, ‘Anything you need, come to us, we can help you.’”

For her part, Chun was struck by Chen’s humble attitude both on and off the ice. “He always covers his divots” — the holes left in the ice when he executes his jumps. “That’s the kind of person he is.”

“I remember telling Wayne [Dean, the longtime Yale Athletics administrator who died in 2020, just months after retiring as deputy athletic director], this is my dream: That he’s going to compete in the Olympics, he’s going to win gold, he’s going to have an awesome time,” said Chun. “And if we can play even a small part in that — his happiness — that’s what we need to do. Even if he didn’t win gold, we need to be there for him. And my dream came true.”

Nathan confirmed as speaker at the upcoming Committee of 100 conference on May 5
