Do you have a favorite Olympic memory?
This is such a random one. I don't know why it comes to mind, but when Surya Bonaly did a back flip [an illegal move, at the 1998 Nagano Games], it was her way of saying, "Screw you." I don't know why I liked it.

Just the fact that he actually says 'screw you' in an interview.

and his pre-competition rituals...

Any special pre-competition ritual?
I like to eat a big juicy burger before I compete.

The day of competition?
The day of, yup. Like a few hours before.

Doesn't that feel heavy in your stomach?
I think I like to feel heavy at competitions. I don't want to feel light and waif-like. And a hot-cold-hot-cold shower. Alternating between hot and freezing.

Just to toughen yourself up?
And wake me up.

Is that before or after the big burger? Sounds like a rough day before you even compete.
(Laughs.) I like to push my body to the limit.

I don't think I could handle that before competing.

And his talk about being literally thrown into speaking French by his non-French speaking parents... well, they say that the best way to learn another language is by being surrounded by people who speak it...


And oh dear lord, the childhood pictures...

I just love watching the clips from the 2002 Olympic Games especially,
S/P and B/S free skates and oh Sarah Hughes too.

I still remember my mother screaming at the TV when S/P lost to B/S
