New Car Choice Dilemma

I don't know folks, my little car (Geo Metro) got dinged at work today - someone scratched the door on the driver side. I would have heart failure if I bought a $20,000 car and found a scratch!!! Used is starting to appeal to me again. It would be great if I did not have to drive my new car to work, but that is not an option.

It's a bummer when you have new car and you get that first scratch. But it does happen. When my husband got his new Honda Element he had a rock come and crack the front windshield. A few weeks later another rock did a number on the window. He says he waiting for rock #3 before he replaces it.

I know how you feel about not wanting anything to happen to your car. When I brought my new (used) Honda home I didn't want anything to happen to my beautiful red car. Well I ran over a rock in the road and sure enought my front bumper got its first scratch But that is just the way it is. Just enjoy getting a new car and don't worry about it getting scratch, because sooner or later it does happen.

I, too, am car shopping. I had several models in mind, but then I received the Consumer Reports car edition (just released). My final two choices are the Civic and the Corolla. Both received great scores and are in the right price range. Plus, both have very good resale value. I am leaning toward the Civic because it looks sharper, but it will depend on the test drives.

I really wanted to look into the Saturn Ion and Volkswagon Jetta, but the Ion received horrible reviews, plus the interior was rated too cramped. The Jetta has been completely remodeled for 2005! It doesn't look anthing like the cute little car it has been . I am so disappointed. It is too new to have any ratings yet.

I currently drive a Ford Escort ('99). Not the sharpest looking car, but the best car I have ever owned. This is my second Ford and have not had a thing go wrong with either of them, except normal wear and tear. Because of this, I might look into the Ford Focus, which was rated the Best Buy for it's size and price range. I think this is the second year in a row it has received this award.

I read in the Lemon-Aid guide that the Ford Focus was not a good car. He (Phil Edmonston only gives it two stars). I had considered looking at the Ford Focus, but changed my mind.
