New U.S. Nationals/decline of figure skating article

Nicely put, Seanibu. 'Faking it' is part of the art of acting. One has to learn how to express the emotions of the character he is portraying. This applies to all performing artists. I learned it as a dancer.

I think we would all love to see some pictures of that Joe. I bet you have a few dapper shots:agree:

And yes to the "faking it" factor in performing. Skaters are also performing, and some "fake" better then others. But I believe the level of "faking" necessary in FS is obtainable by any that have made it into "the public eye." And refining it is really the only necessity for someone like Kimmie.

I think some skaters fake charisma (no names), while others exude it (again, no names).

Still, others are learning. I'd put Meissner in this category.

That's rubbish. Do you really think that most people like to be talked down to and have the judges tell them who the winner should be; that they have no opinion of their own?

Mmm .. I think maybe I've been misunderstood here
I was referring to the proposition that "if the average John and Jane Doe didn't immediately understand the scoring process then they will quickly lose interest". I just happen to believe that isn't necessarily the case, primarily because I didn't feel that way myself, okay ? Further, I believe there are many, many FS fans who have been fans for years and probably will be for years to come without EVER understanding much about CoP and GOE and Levels etc, etc.

On the other hand, I'm not suggesting that judges be treated as some sort of sacred priesthood. Their decisions should be open for scrutiny and challenge, of course, by those who do want to get more involved in the nitty-gritty of the sport.

My intention was not to be argumentative, I was simply expressing my thoughts.

Nice reply-thoughtful and courteous to my somewhat confrontational comments. Thanks for that. I don't think we disagree after all.
