Now Irina's injured

I'm totally    for her! What a season start! Only bad news! And now Irina! :banging:

I hope and pray it's not that serious and she will recover soon. 👍

Another injury?

I hope she rest well. Not to rush to the CoC. Just concetrate on Euro and Rusian National, make it to the worlds. I understand that's the original goal she had remain amature. Besides her family (mom, dad) need her.

I also would like to see Irina skate under COP but I think she's going to be fine. I just really believe she will be a contender at the Olympics.

It's sad that all these elites are getting injured. Not only elites, but local skaters could not even compete in regionals. What's the problem? I guess the upcoming 2006 Olympics in Italy give skaters too much pressure.

Interesting that the article left out the important piece of information that Irina was very ill all of last season before she went to worlds. It says she was left off the team but later went to worlds but she finished 9th.

What's the purpose in hiding Irina's illness? If she was a US skater she would have been presented in much brighter light. Irina's 9th place finish at worlds was amazing. It was a near miracle that she was doing triple jumps, given the seriousness of her illness. The article completely ignored that.

Where do these shoddy journalists come from?

This season just keeps getting worse and worse......hang in there Irina....42

Darnit! I was looking forward to seeing her skate this season. I wish her luck in recovering from whatever ails her.

Irina has a chronic illness and she will be on medication for a long, long time. She has been able to slowly get herself back in shape, but I'm not sure how competitive she will be even this year. Her knee injury is just going to make things harder for her.

I think Irina will make the Russian Olympic team next year no matter what, because even at 75%, she is still the best skater of all the Russian ladies. But at 26 and in less than perfect health, Irina would be an unlikely candidate for Olympic gold. Making the podium would be a great achievement for her under the circumstances.

According to the article,
This month, Slutskaya said she had fully recovered from all her medical problems and was looking forward to a new season.
Given that what Slutskaya has is chronic, and that the medications themselves can take a toll, it would be rather miraculous if she is, indeed, fully recovered.

I find it interesting that Plushenko is criticized for performing and competiting on a torn meniscus, where the long-term effects could be career-ending and painful, but not deadly. On the other hand Slutskaya is praised for a courageous comeback that was, by her own admission, against the advice of her doctors who were concerned for her life. That decision might be brave or willful, depending on one's point of view, but I'm not sure how intelligent it is.

According to Zhanna Gromova

Irina's coach is quoted in a new Russian paper today saying that Irina will be returning to training in the next 3 days. The doctors indicated it was a minor tear not major and for her to rest a few days.

Irina wants to compete this year and wants to put last year behind her. She's eager and has been training and feels that her illness has been discussed enough in the media. She wants to focus on the future hence, she's better.

Anyone who has read up on her illness knows there is never "fully recovered" though. Remission is possible and thats the goal which most likely is being achieved.

I'm sure Irina has talked about this till she's tired of it and wants to talk about something more positive.

Irina is 26 years old? I never knew how old she was! Strange, I hear about how "old" Michelle Kwan is all the time, and she is younger than Irina? And Sasha is considered a "young teenage sprite" and she is almost 20?
Ah, skating is a strange sport!

I wish her all the best with her injury and illness(es). I've always been a fan, even when the "bloom fell off the rose" in the late 90's and she went from being everyone's darling to nearly being "yesterday's news." She never gave up and I really admire that. I would love to see her return to top form... and incidentally I thought she was under-marked at 2004 Worlds.
