Wow- what a weird stumbly morning of ODs. It was like everyone was sleepy and couldn't quite get through it.
My impressions from video feed:
Chong/Gfeller:
Clean skate but didn't seem very connected to one another.
Bobrova/Soloviev:
So playful and cute but out of unison in several places.
Wester/Barantsev:
They were not quite in sync this morning and his jacket is a bit distracting flapping about. They looked very depressed in the knc- my heart broke a bit for them.
Gorshkova/Butikov:
Good job. Clean with a bit of zip and good character.
Crone/Poirier:
These 2 have the most interesting lifts- really creative moments that fit the theme of their dance perfectly. The first lift the entry and set up going in is unexpected and is a delightful surprise when it turns into a lift. The only thing besides Vanessa's break on the twizzle that marred the performance was her hat. It's very time-appropriate but it obscures her expression you can't really see her face.
Navarro/Bommentre:
These 2 are SEXY. That look in the opening pose. But again a little weird and sloppy- she lost her flower from her costume and in the twizzles they looked like they completely lost where they were supposed to be in relation to one another. But decent run for the first time out.
Pechalat/Bourzat:
These 2 are so lovely- their music is charming, lazy, and sexy but fluke falls and bumps really sealed the deal here. Too bad- I know that they'll perform it better later in the season.
Davis/White:
What can I say... I was kind of depressed by the time they came on to the ice because of the weird run of performances but it is a testament to their program and their skating that as soon as they started to move I had a big grin on my face. Their "Happy Feet" dance made me HAPPY beyond words. Yes, even Charlie had a little stumble in their step sequence but man oh man. The character of this dance is the best they've ever done!!! Charlie asked in the knc to Marina if "it came across." Man oh man did it?!!!
They were like a happy-go-lucky 20s couple out on the town for a night of parties with Meryl's lovely little feathery evening hat and Charlie's vest. Everything was perfect- there was a carefree roaring 20s off the cuff casualness and lightness about the whole thing that was incredible. There were a few moments when a few things weren't quite in sync and the straight line lift transitions were a little uncomfortable - they might want to re-think a cleaner transition but awwww- man. They have stepped it up and then some. Love this OD.
