Pairs - Free Program

oh no!!! I hope and pray he's okay! Did they fall???

I'm not sure - the first we saw on the screen was Dorota crying at the boards. I feel so bad for them, the tears were down my face when they were talking to the referee. What a way to end a career....

What a tragic way for 2 great pairs teams to end their careers.

Anyone care to join me in an orange juice toast to Siudek & Siudek and Petrova and Tikhonov?

I just found out (from Scott Russell of CBC as he was about to do a piece on them).

His back went out during the warm-up (not sure if on a lift or not). When we saw Dorota crying at the boards, Mariusz was bent over behind the boards that's why we couldn't see him. They went backstage to try and do a couple of lifts, but he couldn't. Because they were the last team in the flight, they decided to take the ice to take a bow and then go to the referee to withdraw.

Gosh! I was never a huge fan of either team, but I certainly didn't want their careers to end this way! I wish them the best!

Well....I've got coffee, but I'll gladly toast both couples. The best of luck to both teams in their future.

Thanks for the info Rosaleen!!

Music: Phantom of the Opera on Ice by Danova / her in white him in black with white ruffle /
Lovely opening chor into sbs 3t steps 3t - he had to hang on a bit to the 1st one but it was clean / soft piano music is bringing me right into the program huge 3tw / sbs 3s - she might have 2ft / one arm star lift goes up so easy with a complicated exit / lasso lift is beautiful and is the thr 3s that follows quickly - huge with tight fast rotation in the air / sbs spins match and are with the music / they're interpreting this beautifully / huge thr 3l that she might have brushed her foot going through / spirals are very nice / easy hip lift with one hand set down / bods with change of hand and him chaging pivot as well / now the music picks up and is guilding as they skate the strt steps starting in mostly dance holds then separating for the remaining 2/3rd / she does a falling leaf into the pair combo spin that ends the program / that was wonderful - emotional and tender at the same time /

Thanks for the extra info re S&S, Rosaleen. They were one of my all-time favourites and I felt for them so much when I saw what was happening.

V&M were utterly spellbinding....

14 Valerie MARCOUX / Craig BUNTIN CAN
Music: L'Amour by Osvaldo Montes / both in shades of coral & white /
Soft opening moves into 3t turns 3t she had a hand down on the 2nd one / 2tw is airy (but only a double) / spirals carry very nice speed and matching positions and flow with music / sbs 2a he fell / pair spin starts backwards in arabesque postion - they might have had a little problem on one of the transitions / lasso lift to one hand with flip dismount covers the full length of the ice / thr 3l from their unique entrance with him spreal eagle - step out / step overhead / thr 3s step out / pause as the music changes a bit / into sbs spins with pefect (to me) sync and matching pos / h to h lift with helicopter exit / strt steps as music is building and the crowd is clapping (and have been off and on through the performance ) / bods with about 4 revs into their closing pose / That must have been a somewhat difficult skate for them emotionally because they train with the Suideks /

15 Jessica DUBE / Bryce DAVISON CAN
Music: Blower's Daughter by D. Rice
Starting back to back and skating away from each other and back together to soft piano sets the mood / 2tw is very nice with arms overhead on catch / sbs 2a step 2a in perfect sync and close together / lasoo lift to no hands star goes end to end / throw 3s follows immediately / bods starts with him cupping head with change of hand (I think) / sbs 3s he had it then fell she was clean but on replay he only did a double / step over to one hand with one hand dismount / sbs flycam in perfect sync on the fly and spin - pos matched beautifully through but they lost sync a couple of times for a second / thr 3l went up crooked and she fell / spirals slow at the end but positions are very good / strt steps with some mirror sections right with music / hip lift to star to carry with a drop exit with her in stag pos / pair spin to end the program with a sale/pell bit with her spinning separately from him in a ½ sit /

Considering everything they've been through this season, I have a feeling Jess and Bryce will quite happily take that performance.

Nice reception for them, but especially Rena. Sweet of John to "present" her to the audience and then back away knowing that was her moment.

16 Rena INOUE / John BALDWIN USA
Music: Puccini Medley / her in light blue him in navy /
Dynamic opening music and great speed down the ice into sbs 3t - she fell out of it with hand down not sure if she actually fell / 2tw / one arm hip lift with excellent pos by her / bods with change of hand gets too slow after the change / sbs spins are excellent in matching pos - not sure if a tiny bit out of sync at one point if so they got it back quickly / pair spin keeps up nice speed / thr 3a fell but probably fully rot / spirals with good pos & speed / thr 3l she landed on toepick and fell forward / sbs 2a he landed pitched way forward and very tight but not sure if hand down / crowd is clapping with music but moreso I think for encourage ment / strt steps move with the music / lasso lift into the closing pose - finishing behind the music and I think 1 second over time /

me too! I'm bummed.
hard to take that other board where they all hate them and continuously rank on how horrible they are (or at least he is, which he is not)

Something definitely happened to Mariusz's back at the end of the warmup.

After he came off the ice in obvious discomfort, I could hear Dorota crying and repeatedly saying "we have to find a chiropractor" in Polish. I got the impression that maybe this was a recurring thing with his back and it just had to happen at that time.

Before they took their final bow on the ice, what I could make out through the other noise and confusion in the building was them seeming to agree that a lift or throw could cause more damage to him.

What a lousy way to end a career.

17 Aliona SAVCHENKO / Robin SZOLKOWY GER
Music: The Mission / him in black, her in white both with crosses on front
Starts with single notes being plucked / huge thr 3f / sbs 3t he stepped out with hand down and they didn't do the 2nd jumps / music picks up with familiar beat and melody / huge 3tw / lasso lift to carry with him in spread eagle and change of pos by her / music fades and picks up again with the soft melody for spirals with great matching extension and line into a unique nested pos - timed beautifully with the music / nested spread eagles into lasso lift up very easily but doesn't cover much ice / thr 3s landed right one the beat of music form nested bent leg spread eagles / sbs 2a she singled steps into 2t / sbs spins are a bit far apart but very nice sync / strt steps as the music builds with changing reflect the ebb lift of the music so well / press hip lift from her resting on his bent knees / bods with change of and and pivot and he picks her up for the exit right into pair spin with wonderful speed and some unique pos / wonderful program
