Pairs - Short Program

7 Dominika PIATKOWSKA / Dmitri KHROMIN POL
Music: Tango Chak Chak her in dary shiny purple him in black with silver belt
Some nice opening chor to the unusual music / sbs 3t / 2tw is high with arms overhead on catch / thr 3s / there's some nice chor moves in here / back h to h lift with one hand set down - music has really slowed down part way through the lift and stays that way for the spirals which go with the music but get slow in the middle / music picks up again for the bods and then into sbs flycam that I had perfect angle to see the unison that was wonderful - perfect in the fly and camel pos and quite good for the rest of the spin / they are ecstatic with that skate and she's almost in tears coming off the ice /

PB 46.94 TES 30.41 PCS 19.77 tot 50.18 new PB currently 6th

8 Dorota SIUDEK / Mariusz SIUDEK POL
Music Nidgy W Zyciu (soundtrack) black with diag wavey pink & white design - her in catsuit
Nice thr 3l to start the program / sbs 3t - he stumbled out - sorry at this end of the rink and has to switch to monitor to see / sbs spins get out of sync a bit on front half but good on the back half / 3tw is clean - not really high / pair spin makes some nice shapes in the positions / spirals carry good speed / back h to h lift to one hand with nice pos by her and good speed / bods about 6 revs into closing pose / their last ever short program - not perfect but pretty good /

PB 61.84 TES 31.77 PCS 25.46 Tot 57.23 currently 3rd

9 Qing PANG / Jian TONG CHN
O DOux Printemps d Autrefois by Massenet both in diag light blue on one side of top & white on other - darker blue pants on him /
Sbs 3t are nice - good sync / some nice lilting chor with the music / huge lateral 3tw / thr 3l is humungous / spirals - nested coe to start both with nice extension / sbs spin - camels to start in sync but they get out on the upright pos and out again after the change / unusual press entrance to lift that didn't seem to last that long - or maybe it's just because I'm behind / pair spin to end matched music beautifully / they were one with the music in this program

PB 67.08 TES 37.30 PCS 29.45 Tot 66.75 currently 1st

And I could have sworn he doubled his jump, but I guess not. After the Zhangs, I'd imagine the rest of the Chinese teams will be watching just how many times they rotate that lift.

Gorgeous program and a deserved first place.

10 Angelika PYLKINA / Niklas HOGNER SWE
Sozo by Kitaro, Peacock by R Dupere both in purple his darker than hers - she has purple leggings (think this is the same costumes as last year) - I have a soft spot for them (bias warning  )
Spirals to start the program - good speed - lines match well in spite of size difference / huge 3tw - nice catch / sbs 3s - she stumbled out a bit / thr 3sal - pitched forward on landing not sure if she touched down / sbs spins - very nice sync until right at the end where she almost fell out of the upright pos / forward straddle entrance to lift to one hand - lovely position by her and good speed / bods with change of hand - didn't lose too much speed - ok pos by her / pair spin shows their height difference and looks good in some positions but not in others /

PB 48.39 TES 26.36 PCS 21.00 Tot 47.36 currently 10th

Pang & Tong were beautiful. Her solo jump landing looked a bit iffy, but they weren't marked down for it with the gap in points with the Canadians. A glorious Programme.

Nice to see a Swedish pair make their debut, looked very good. :)

11 Marina AGANINA / Artem KNYAZEV UZB
La Boheme by Puccini / her in red him in red top and black pants
Chor to start that brought a smile to my face / sbs 2a - she might have 2ft - bit far apart / thr 2a -nicely done - good distance / there's a nice light feel to their skating / 2tw - not much height but clean / I know what it is - a playfulness with the music / sbs spins very nice sync and matching pos / facing entrance to h to h lift - no change of pos or hands but good air pos / bods was over almost before it started - 1 rev - maybe 1-1/2 / pair spin to end the program /

PB 45.41 TES 23.22 PCS 17.38 Tot 40.60 currently 11th

12 Tatiana VOLOSOZHAR / Stanislav MOROZOV UKR
Adagio by T. Albinoni / both in black with part of the tops in semi sheer - there's red crystals on their tops/
An interesting move to open the program and right into sbs 3t - he had trouble on the landing but not sure if his free foot went down / wow 3tw - it was huge and gorgeous / thr 3l / forward straddle entrance to lift with one hand set down / spirals start with back coe in catchfoot by both / a couple of nice variations in the way they changd positions / bods - sorry didn't really see it / flycam start sbs spin - nice matching pos - good speed and I think almost perfect sync throughout / pair spin nice front half and equally nice last half into close pose / this was nice program - skated to the music /

PB 56.26 TES 32.28 PCS 25.34 tot 57.62 new PB currently 4th

13 Aliona SAVCHENKO / Robin SZOLKOWY GER
Once Upon a Time in Mexico / both in black with red accents - her in black leggings
I like the chor to start / thr 3f - nicely done / sbs 3t are perfect - sync & close together / crowd is clapping to the music as it speeds up / 3tw is fast - little bit of a jerk on the set down - I think he didn't really catch her, she landed it / innovative press entrance into lift with lovely air pos and good speed / bods is good / pair spin started out excellent with pos changes matching music - got a little slow on the back half / pair spin is just great - fast, very fast with matching pos - think it got a tiny bit out toward the end but got back / spiral seq is very good with unusual pos and transitions /

PB 64.46 TES 37.70 PCS 29.95 Tot 67.64 new PB currently 1st

The Germans were soooo sharp and fantastic! Better than Pang & Tong IMO and deservedly 1st.

14 Rena INOUE / John BALDWIN USA
The Soul of Spain / bright blue & black Spanish style
Some good fast chor to start / sbs 2a - far apart but clean / music slows for a minute and now the thr 3a fell - you could see it from the throw - she went off the circle right from the throw / spirals are ok - good speed & pos / 2tw is ow bu clean / sbs spins are fast with good unison and pos - close together / crowd is clapping again to the music / h to h lift with good air pos and ice coverage - forward set down which is more difficult but was awkward / and I didn't really see the bods or the pair spin because I was busy writing . . . sorry / and no replays of those elements

PB 61.73 TES 34.64 PCS 25.85 ded 1.00 Tot 59.50 currently 4th

What the..... ? The Americans overtook Dube & Davison with a fall and a double axel sbs jump? Hmmmphfh! What a pile of.....

Seriously, how can that result be justified?

Yeah....What she just said up there.

How on earth....!?!

Sigh...Just when I thought we were watching a pretty well judged event and...Blech!!

Because a fall on the throw 3a is worth the same as a clean throw 3lo

So they can still fall and still receive a good amount of points

Music; Nyah from Mission Impossible 2 / her in dark fushia with black lace overlay him in black with lots of silver accents on shoulder & chest both with lime green around waist - much nicer than it sounds - Spanish style
Very nice chor to the flamenco to start & great speed / 2tw is nicely done / sbs 3t she was leaning and stepped out / thr 3s is big but she put her free foot down to hang onto the landing / h to h lift to one hand / sbs flycam sit out of sync to upright still out and more out of sync after the change of foot - positions matched nicely though and good speed / spirals - leg lines done always match and they're quite slow / bods - good low pos by her about 3 revs / pair spin - good speed and quite good pos /

What a load of nonsense the points system must be then! sheesh! Plus how can a 2axel sbs be worth more than a clean triple?

Never mind that the 2 progs didn't compare for artistry etc either!....

Shoddy marking, I'm afraid.

Maybe *home* scoring going on with the US Lady being originally Japanese? There's no other explanation?

16 Diana RENNIK / Aleksei SAKS EST
Music: Explosive by Tonci Huljic both in black with gold & green diag ig zag design on chest
Dynamic music & chor to start / sbs 2a she stumbled out / thr 3s is very nice - good distance / she does shoot duck back & forth between his legs and then into h to h lift / 2tw is a bit low but clean / they skating to the music / sbs spins very nice sync & matching pos - they got a tiny bit out on a couple of revs / spirals - something looked a bit awkward in the transition from the 1st to 2nd pos and very slow at the end / bods is ok / pair spin starts with opposing crouch pos - rest of it was ok /

Once again La Rhumba, you took the words out of my mouth.

Yes, I know a rotated but fallen T3A is worth a lot, but along w/SBS 2A, SBS Spins that were in and out of sync and a program that didn't compare choreography wise w/D&D and...Give me a break!!!
