Pairs SP

Did Tatiana two foot the landing of the throw as well? Hard to tell on my messed up feed.

S/S were AMAZING tonight. I think their score is too high (as usual), but still, they were great. Wow, so many pairs really brought it. A great competition overall.

Okay, so I'm going to throw this out there. I actually LOVE S/S short program. It feels like a throwback. One afternoon, i spent time youtubing pairs programs from back in the day (70s 80s) and everyone seemed to be doing some sort of disco routine. It seemed so out of place considering nowadyas no one skates to that. But S/S short kinda has that feel to it. Its fun!

I'll allow that before the season started and pictures surfaced of their costume, it conjured up horrible images of Madonna and the crazy stuff she wore.

What a great night of pair skating!
S&S have enough of a lead to make one mistake in the LP and still win, the american are BOTH in the top ten, and almost everybody skated their best!

Agreed. This was one of the best SP competitions I have seen in quite awhile. I usually congratulate the top three but tonight (or should I say this morning for me) I have to say Congratulations to the top ten because they were all on tonight.

Personally I would put S/S behind, if judged fairly or would at least put them closer to K/S. I also thought M/T should have been in 3rd.
Well, I would be happy with the repeat of Euros podium in any order.
Well, don't forget that Yuko stumbled on the sbs spins and their throws rarely have the quality of Aliona's throw Triple Flip (which is also worth more).

I agree on M/T though and on the repeat of Euros podium in any order

Well, it's a 5 point cushion. Because as much as K/S are my sentimental favourites - they don't stand a chance. Z/Z are the in the best position to take this away from Aliona and Robin.

I don't think Z/Z will even be on the podium. K/S are usually very consistent. They have been held down with PCS before but it seems judges are warming up to them. So if they do not have melt down I expect them to be the closest who will get to S/S.

The top 6 are all those who were at the Grand Prix final.

Nice lead for S/S, al long as they do not make any major mistakes they'll prbably keep their title.

The Canadians are almost tied!

Yes, Volosazhar was 2foot.

Clean and they were like rockets, I never saw a pair team skate so fast ever!!!!
And in synch 72.30. The score says it all

They were fast. It was like I was fast-forwarding my feed while watching them skate. I agree their score says it all and they definitely deserve first place..

That's why I said, personally. Both had equal number of mistakes. It was close in my mind. And since I am not a fun of S/S short, I would give a very small edge to K/S. But reputation is everything and they definitely skated very fast and in theme to the music. So I am OK.

Wheeee Kavaguti and Smirnov!! Love me some Japanese-Russian/Russian pair! Their shorts have been great all season, and I hope they deliver a great lp. They wouldn't stand a good chance against clean S/S, and I don't want to wish a disaster on any team, but I'd love for K/S to take the title.
Very delighted to see they got the second highest pcs of the night:rock:

That said, their skating skills, twist, choreography, speed and lifts are all superior to D/D and D/B. They were marked lower in PCS than D/D (which, frankly, I don't understand), they made it up in TES. It's possible that they had high levels - which Ingo Steuer's teams tend to be pretty good about - and D/D didn't.

I would have given their twist a +3 in a heartbeat. I think Tatiana is one of the best, if not the best, pairs skaters out there.

I can't help but think the judges are holding back PCS for M/T because of their downward momentum in the LP all season long. The judges seeing them blow their LP after such impressive SPs every time hurts their reputation in their minds. It would be a most pleasant surprise to see MashMax deliver a flawless LP, or even one that has no more than 1 mistake.

I would love to believe that. I simply don't like the Zhangs, especially since they seem to forget all about artistry / flow / musicality during their free programs. But K/S' LP is so frantic, they still have to do a LP internationally without those tiny boo-boos everywhere: two foot, out of synch, shaky here, shaky there... If they hit a LP like they did at Russian Nationals this season, I'll rest my case. But they haven't done that on international ice so far.

I agree on all points. But this team is DOOMED. She really has to change partner if she ever wants to be on a podium.

What a night/morning!!

So sad for Jess and Bryce, but thrilled for Megan and Craig!!

And now....Off to literally drop into my bed. See you all back here tomorrow for the Pairs Free and Mens SP!!!

D/D higher PCS is probably because they won the bronze last year? V/M did really badly at worlds last year. It's too bad they'll be leaving Steuer soon. He really did a great job with them.

I :love::love: their triple twist! Their lifts are so amazing too.

I don't blame the judges. Maria always looks like she is about to faint before she takes the ice. I would also would have hard time concentrating on their skating.

What? I hadn't heard of this! Any details? I think Steuer done wonderful things for them - particularly giving them better programs and Stanislav seems a lot fitter.

(I also like what Steuer's done for the Swiss team).
