PCS Scores at Worlds

Choreography is not made up by the skater but by a paid choreographer. To judge that, one has to simply agree that the skater is following the choeography be it simple or complex. Then one comes to transitions which, of course, is choreography so how does a judge manage both?

The whole system of PCS designations should be refined and still it will be a bias supplement to the Tech. That's the way it is in Judgeland.

I dunno, I think the PCS scores make sense? Lots of skaters have their choreography done by someone else but it's still up to them to time with the music correctly and actually make the movements look good. For example, Kimmie's choreography at the beginning of her Short Program. It might have looked good in Lori Nichol's mind but when Kimmie actually does, it flapping her arms around, it's certainly not appealing. :agree:

that's not a bias, I presume, but it is an opinion. Not unlike judges' scores.

His program may have been technically less difficult in the short , but his choreography was definitely more difficult.

Are you sure that Takahashi's choreography was more difficult in the short?
His first three elements are jumps:3F-3T, 3A, 3Lz. While last year lots of fans complained about Plushenko's frontloading and kept saying that he should have been dinged on the choreography mark because of this imbalance in the program, this year I have not see any complaint about Takahashi 's frontloading. Does he frontload better than Plushenko?
And Takahashi's SP was not exactly crammed with transitions compared to Joubert's. So where's the "definitely more difficult program?"

Okay you got me their I was being a little bias. I preferred Takahashi choreography because he continue it all the way up to his jumps. He is constantly showing arm or head movement to the music. Joubert with totaly drop choreography(arm movement) two to three seconds before he jumps going into total consentration mode. I think what takahashi is doing is slightly harder. I also think it is easier to interpret a fast james bond piece than a flowing piece(unless your johnny weir. I didn't know it be so hard to have stiff sharp arm and body movments. It look like he was trying so hard.)

I don't like frontloading. I was just comparing Takahashi to Joubert. Unless your music has three to five huge crescendos at the beginning (like MARS from "The Planets" by Gustav Holst) there is no excuse to have three to five jumping passes back to back.

Still, there is one good thing about frontloading. The skaters get all those nailbiting moments out of the way early, then the audience can stop holding their breath and sit back and enjoy the performance.

I don't know what the poster's intention was but personally my complaints about Pluschenko's front loading was in relation to his LP not the SP. I think many skaters do all three of their jumping passes as their first three elements. I would prefer to see them spaced out more but i think that's far more important in the LP than in the SP.
