Peacock prices going up again

I just saw an article that said Peacock is going up again. I believe for the Premium tier is going up $2 and Premium Plus is going up $4. Wonderful just before the Olympics they do this again. I sometimes get a live tv package for a month for the big events like this, but this year I was planning go up to Premium Plus, which includes the local NBC station, to watch the nightly NBC broadcast because my reception stinks. I may still do that but it irritates me that I have to pay more and more for this. Skating fans, unless we have VPN, are having to shell out more and more just to watch the events. Cranberry Cup is coming up does anybody knows whether there is going be stream and who is providing it. I am not going watch an event without music because that plain stupid. The fact USFS could not figure out how to get or pay for a licence for replays of music at their events is just plain pathetic. I have a feeling though at least for the senior events that Peacock/NBC will show them if for no other reason that but to promote the 2026 Olympics because Cranberry Cup is happening the last weekend of the Paris Olympics and NBC needs footage. This means that going to twist Ilia and Isabeu arms to compete in the middle of their off season to make the executives of NBC happy. I think Ilia could care less about NBC's bottom line but if the USFS asks him to do it he most likely will to make them happy so they going to be put though this so NBC has what they want. I mean I just looked at Cranberry Cup entry list and it is still blank less than 3 weeks before and only has single events no ice dance which is strange forl a Challenger Event which the first one of season. Instead of just asking them for an interview or for some footage to put up they are going to make compete whether they are ready or not so NBC will be happy. I just hope no one gets hurt.

So for the long suffering fans of figure skating in the United States we get put though more of it.

I subscribe to Peacock and the prices are rising by $2 a month for premium, which is my subscription. We cut the cord many years ago, and we subscribe to Peacock for its programming. That includes figure skating, but that is not the only reason we subscribe, Our other streaming services raised their prices in the past few years as well. I don't mind because of that, I don't know how I would feel if I subscribed only for FS.

Ilia and Isabeau need NBC a heck of a lot more than NBC needs Ilia and Isabeau. That's not a diss to Ilia or Isabeau, I would say that about any figure skater. of course I am talking about the US. If Ilia or Isabeau or any skater want promotional opportunities for US companies marketing to US residents, they need US exposure. NBC doesn't need Cranberry Cup footage, or any other footage, for their promotions, but figure skating needs the exposure that NBC can give it.

The music licensing issue for comps not on Peacock is beyond frustrating. I have no idea how much it would cost and if the USFS can afford it. Beyond frustrating.

My family has cable, in addition to various streaming services, including Peacock, as we all like to watch different sports, shows, etc. So, we will probably still continue to subscribe to Peacock even with the price increase.

However, that does not change the fact that streaming FS is still a mess, and of course, this music licensing situation is another issue.

Basically, ever since the Olympic season, when there was a copyright issue with the band Heavy Young Heathens (a whole other story that I won't explain here), there have been some troubles regarding music copyrights and replays.

Most recently, a few weeks ago, USFS just issued a new policy regarding music that skaters are allowed to use, and it has caused major issues for skaters of all levels and ages. Basically, unless skaters want to get their own license, they must use specific music approved by USFS. However, the license that USFS has for the music doesn't cover streaming/video, so if a competition in the US wants to stream their event, they literally have to not have music.

This policy was implemented about a month ago and has caused tons of problems for skaters, as many people already had programs (and were actively competing) with music that wasn't cleared under this new policy.

As such, not only will local competitions not be able to stream their events with music, but a competition like the Cranberry Cup, which is now an ISU Challenger series event, will also not be able to stream with music.

The implementation of this policy will also probably result in an even harsher crackdown on YouTube videos and the like. If you go back to competitions 2016/17 or even 2018 or 19, you'll be able to find tons of videos of US Nationals and tons of other events. Now, you'll be lucky to find a video of the winning free skate. To be clear, I don't think this is just a US thing, but I don't think that this new USFS policy is going to help the situation.

This sort of debacle is unheard of to me. Skating without music, I cannot even think of an analogy. It is like getting an empty plate for dinner.

But whether we can see it on streams or on television or on replays in the US depends on the interplay of licenses.

Yes I definitely didnt imagine the skaters were actually skating in silence. That would be essentially impossible, unless they were wearing ear buds or something and the crowd was in silence, which would also be heinous. The lack of music on streaming is still unbelievable. Anyone must be a serious fan of a skater to sit through their program without music.
