Plushenko to Resume His Eligibility to skate ISU Competitions

I try to get the answer for the Plusheko hate that has been going on and on here and there. He followed the procedure to get reinstated and people declared he broke the rule and set exception. He skipped worlds to skate in a show and lost status but other skaters did the same and still keep their status-- no one complained about that and even asked when he/she would compete again. He came back after retirement and got lots of boos. Other skaters did the same and were welcome.... If he was not Russian and not that great to be a threat to N. American skaters, maybe he would be treated warmly.

The problem is that Plush did not play, "Mother, May I," properly with the ISU, as the other skaters did.

He just did what he wanted, and the ISU penalized him. I have no problems with that.

I also have no problems with him being reinstated, now that he's served one year's penalty.

People are allowed to reinstate after penalties for doping. Plush's sin is much less in my book.

He just irritates me....his attitude...his inability to lose gracefully under the ISU rules...I just dislike him. The biggest issue for me is not that he broke the rule by skating in the non-ISU sanctioned show....but just the fact that he knowingly broke a rule and didn't bother to care. If he holds the OGM in such high esteem, he must hold the ISU to that level as well....but yet, he can break their rules without any remorse. Whatever. I don't even care about anything he does, and I'll just end up rooting against him if he competes.

Plushenko had asked for permission from his federation because they are the one to give it for shows and got it first place, as well as all the skaters in KOI who were to compete at worlds, like Weir for example. Then Plushenko withdrew, like Weir for example and ISU threatened RF to take back his permission unlike Weir for example. The RF page announced that they forbid Plushenko to skate in KOI cause they didnt want ISU to mess with any concequences for russian team..
By then Plushenko had been openingly supporting Anton S. for RF president and not Piseev. Whatever is been said about disregard to rules, i doubt anyone would withdrew from their own show 3 days before because their permission was gotten back. Besides he had done it in Prague in 2004 (same time I think when Kwan was told not to skate in a show) and withdrew from a show and went to courts with organisers and had to explain to an upset audience. I m sure he was aware this time as also back in prague of the conseequences and chose to skate in the show this time.
So Evgeni withdrew from worlds and skated to koi, other skaters skipped worlds and went to Dancing with the Stars or KOI, the only difference is that their federation backed them up in their decision.

MathM, I think "interests of ISU" are indeed more than just financial. The sport benefits from having well known names compete in GP and other events. This is not just about money - people tune in to watch a name they recognize and end up getting acquainted with the up-and-commers.

All quite true, and comprises a good argument for the ISU's stance.

I guess that is why I was surprised at the actual wording in the ISU Constitution that seems to put money front and center. Here is the entire stated rationale for the eligibility rules:

A Akater wishing to take part in ISU activities should not be placed at a [financial] disadvantage because by reason of the necessity to prepare for and participate in ISU Events, the Olympic Winter Games, The Winter Youth Olympic Games abd all International Competitions, exhibitions and tours properly sanctioned by the ISU or a Member. Accordingly, a Skater may receive payments for appearances, endorcements and exhibition performances and still remain eligiible provided

(i) such Skater complies with conditions established by the respective Member of which such Skater is a member concerning such appearances, endorsements and exhibition performances, including financial arrangements.

(ii) payments or other benefits to be received by such Skater for any skating appearance are made through the respective Member of which such Skater is a member or at least with full information on such payments or benefits given by such Skater to such member (i.e., all of Plushenko’s remuneration goes through Piseev).

(iii) such Skater complies with all other provisions of this Rule 102. (the main one apparently being not to take part in any actual competition that is not sanctioned by the ISU.}

It seems to me that they skipped the opportunity to extol the lofty principles of the sport and the responsibilities of the ISU’s guardianship thereof, and went straight for the money.

anyway, I'm happy he's been reinstated and I'm looking to see him at Euros (yeah, I'll be there! :)).
I just don't get all the Plushenko-hate: he broke a rule (nor the first nor such a great crime), was disqualified with the possibility of returning back, he returned. what's so wrong, here?

IMO, it was also many news that reported very badly the news speaking of loss of elegibility for life or similar, which was not true, if they only had read better the rules before writing such things... :scowl:

The issue is a reinstatement of competition. The rationale is MONEY making. Just wondering if it will apply to some other skaters.

Other skater can try to break the same rule as plushy and ask for reinstatement. if they cann't get it back from ISU, i will go on strike for the unfair treatment:biggrin:

Is he kidding? With all the young new talent hitting the ice, he will have his work cut out for him to keep up. I would imagine his goal his to skate at the Sochi Olympics. Oh dear....

Stranger things have happened and the Russian federation is not exactly full of world class Men at the moment.

I still think Plushy commands the ice like no one else and with a bit of tweaking (not to mention politics) he can still be a force and podium contender.

Chan might fall four times and beat Oda but that would never happen against Plushy.

Why......?? Because it is the sport of figure skating

Browning tried one last time... Boitano came back "past his prime"... in 94... they didn't podium, but they were memorable... if he isn't crippled let him skate.

from his interview after reistatement (it is audio), he is in Germany for two surgeries, one knee, one spine (i dont know what kind )

Well, nothing, most important for me than to be healthy. There is a willpower, plus character, the dream is there, there is the desire to win again, to please the audience. I want to change the stereotype of skaters, so that they skate much longer, and not left with 20 years of age from the competitions. The skaters have develope, made some new programs, showed new images to the viewer....
It is very difficult to sacrifice everything, for the sake of sport. You every day training?
- Certainly. Two or three times a day. Before the surgery, I trained together with my team, with Alexei Mishin in Kislovodsk. Off-ice training. And there began to hurt me leg, so we came to Germany. Now, after the intervention in the spine, I will get out from this black hole and proceed with training.
I will work, not how I worked before, than I will work much more, because figure skating gone too far in terms of new skaters, in terms of skating, in terms of steps, in terms of techniques. Take, for example, Patrick Chan, Takahiko Kazuko, our Arthur Gachinski, and Menshov is also our a good athlete - they already jumps several quads. For example, Arthur Gachinski jumping already three different quads!
So, I have a lot of work, and I know that it is very difficult. I understand that it will be very difficult to achieve the results which I have had, but I want to try. Maybe the first season will be, as they say: "failed pancakes". Whereas maybe other grow and succeed. At least, we already have found images for the Short and Free programs.

Another info, Tom Dickson works with Mishin Camp in Spain right now.

Unfortunately, I have never enjoyed his skating. He did do big jumps which to me are not artistic but certainly valid on the tech side. The pompous air about him attracted a lot of screaming girls, which I believe made the judges nervous.

I´ve just informed my mother, my aunt and my grandma that they´re screaming girls and they looked very happy. Now that Plushy´s back they suddenly feel rejuvenated.

I wonder if Plushenko will withdraw from a competition because of an injury (and skate in a show instead in the same time frame) again as getting the eligibility back seems to be so easy?

Probably, he will lose his eligibility and get reinstated 1000000 times until Sochi.

I also think it was too easy. He should have been locked in a monastery to spend a year in fasting, prayer and repentance.

^ LOL!

According to ISU rules of the same link Mathman posted, you can apply and can get reinstated only ONCE, thats UNO. ONE. etc in this lifetime. Dont know about the next.
