Plushenko will honour us with his presence in 2010!

ugh, so he can represent russia at the olympics without competing at nationals? i don't think sasha can do that for the US. different rules i guess....

You are actually right about that. Plushy could compete at the Olympics without skating at Russian Natls. He coud just be selected by his federation and he would be on the team heading to Vancouver.

And I believe Sasha could also compete at the Olympics without skating at US Natls.

I doubt that Sahsa would be selected since she pulled out of her GP events this season. But she could petition US Skating and it would be up to them to pick her or go with the skaters who competed and won medals at Natls.

But it is well within the rules for both federations. US Skating is considering eliminating the "injury petition" that was most recently used by Michelle in 2006.

Personally I think considering a skater who is injured at Natls for a spot on the Natl team makes sense (within reason). I don't think Sasha would be selected this year if she petitions because she hasn't competetd anywhere.

If Plushy was sick/injured for Natls it would be much different because he has already competed and won at several events this season.

Some kind of show - presentation of the Russian national team for the Olympics  ... but there will be present and "previous" champions - Slutskaya, Navka, Kostomarov, Yags :p
Averbukh announced their (Plushy & Yags) "first joint" appearance in Russia .... although not the first - they have been skating together last summer in Korea

... there will be and Torvill & Dean  ... anyway, everyone will receive an award

Every federation is different and I think Russian Nationals has ever been the sole qualifier anyways. They tend to look at other results than just Nationals.

However this being said the difference between Sasha and Plushenko is that we haven't seen Sasha skate a competitive program in over four years. So we have no idea of what her level is at compared to her national compatriots. It would be an injustice of epic proportions to compare the girls now to Sasha four years ago.... When there's a good chance Sasha isn't as good as she was four years ago.

In contrast, while Plushenko is returning like Sasha plans on returning. The guy has already competed at the national and international level. In Russia he posted the second highest score of all the men this season, and way above anything the next Russian guy has done.

But it is well within the rules for both federations. US Skating is considering eliminating the "injury petition" that was most recently used by Michelle in 2006.

I truly hope they don't completely get rid of the petition though. Because I think there are cases where it can be justified. Like B/A last year or in Nancy's case. I DO think though that maybe they should put qualifiers to it. For example, perhaps they should say something like that a person will have had to compete this year, in order to be eligible for the petition..(or at least be ready to competete and get a certain score (higher than the team they'd be replacing) at Four Continents.
And for those who already competed and did well then there can be a rule about showing of course readiness.

I mean the last thing we want is a Todd Eldridge case where someone is just clearly to injured to be much of a factor.. That's not fair. In Michelle's case looking back, it was probably really pushing it to think that she'd be able to be in decent shape for the Olympics too.

So I'm cool with petitions but maybe some guidelines about who qualifies for it.

Are you vegetarian? We wont eat any bratwurst at christmas market?

No, I am not. Though from a certain philosophical standpoint, being a vegetarian makes sense to me. Just not enough sense to actually become a vegetarian.

I will to eat a Bratwurst with you! Do they have those in Liège? Otherwise we will have to eat lots of gaufres. Though I prefer Gaufres de Bruxelles over Gaufres Liégeoises.

Oh no, I just read the banning of Lutai from competitions, that sucks :(
...
I can brig you some waffles from brussels but they will be cold..But if you like them cold, no prob!I like brussels waffles better than liege too!
Of course they have wursts in christmas market, I mean in bruge, brussels and gent i have seen, why not in liege?I ll sue them if they dont have the white ones.

Evgeni Plushenko, indeed, was previously announced to participate in the fourth stage of the Cup of Russia, which started yesterday in Moscow, Alexei Mishin said to "Ves Sport". - "We decided a while ago not to compete there, we didn't see the benefits to once again go to the capital. However, even if we have wanted to go, we coulnd't. Eugene is ill with the flu and he is in poor condition. He has not trained for more than a week and it has significantly disrupted our plan for the Olympic Games in Vancouver. What kind of flu? I do not know, maybe, porcine one, maybe some other. For his treatment we have brought the doctors from the Russian team to St. Petersburg from Moscow, specifically Yaroslav Bugaev. We hope that with their help, Evgeni will get better soon. He has resumed training, but as I said before, it looks poor."

Alexei Mishin also said that the next stage for Evgeni Plushenko will be Nikolai Panin's memorial from December 10-11 in St. Petersburg.

"The Panin memorial competition has become for us the most important stage of preparation for the championship of Russia, which will be held from the 23-27 December in St. Petersburg. At the moment the plan is that Evgeni will perform a full program: December 10, a short program, and 11th, the free one." he said.
Oh, Mishin sounds worse than i thought.:frown:
I ll put the plushy banner back

Thanks for the updates! The flu doesn't sound good and not being able to train for a whole week is bad, too. Mishin's worried, which is understandable.

Get well soon, Plush! :)
