Oda is inconsistent with his triple axel, so that's not the best example. However, unlike Mao, Oda needs to go for two triple axels if he want's a chance of winning. Oda doesn't have a choice once again Mao does.
And I highly doubt that Oda's track record with the triple axel is as weak as Mao's has been the last two years. Once again, she was 1 for 6 last year that's 16%.. And I think she hit only one clean one the year before as well.
Mao doesn't need two triple axels to win. One would do it, and one is enough of a risk as it is for her, but it's a calculated worth it risk... Two though is really pushing it. And for the record, I never said Mao should stop attempting the triple axel. I said that Mao should only attempt it once. There's a difference.
I think Mao should only repeat the triple axel, when the triple axel is as consistent as her triple flip... But hey that's just me..... And once again we are hearing from the practices that Mao's triple axel is not consistent.
