Predictions?

Well, so much for my dream of Joannie getting a silver. With the marks she received in the short being so far off from the leaders, it's a very steep mountain now. Why is she having trouble all of a sudden?

If Joannie doesn't make it to the GPF, I hope she goes back to the drawing board and works on her jumps and add a 4 salchow for the long and works on getting a biellman and some catch foot type positions added to her spins to boost her tech marks. And I hope she get more in to a deeper softer knee and relaxes for the rest of the year while skating. This is no time to be nervous.

All of a sudden? Joannie hasn't had a consistently good season since the fall of 2004, the only time she ever made the GPF. She has bombed either the SP or the FS at every competition since then.

She isn't going to make it to the GPF, seeing as she is 10 points out of 2nd place. And if she isn't landing her triples consistently, what makes you think she can land quad salchows? Joannie is very stiff in her upper body, and doesn't have the flexibility to do a Bielmann. If she could, she would have done them by now.

Joannie just doesn't have the confidence to succeed. She needs a sports psychologist.

I think you are being pretty harsh with your bolded part of the statement. Bombing atleast 1 program is pretty strong words. Here are competitions since then I dont personally feel she bombed either program:

2005 Skate Canada- had triple flip downgraded in short, an outright major mistake on a jump in the short I can see being termed as bombing since there are only 3 jumps, but a downgrade is just missing the mark by a hair (and often a subjective call) and paying dearly for it. Popped triple flip in long. Only mistakes she made. Finished 2nd.

2005 Eric Bompard- small mistake on triple lutz-double toe combo in short, small mistake on triple flip-double loop combo late in long. That close to a clean performance in both. Ended up 4th since she got the killer assignment, up against Arakawa, Cohen, and Slutskaya.

2006 Olympics- hand down on triple flip in short was only mistake there. Doubled triple lutz and small error on triple flip-double toe-double loop sequence were only mistakes in long.

2006 Skate Canada- popped 1 jump in both programs, won the event handily though.

2007 Skate Canada- come on you know she skated pretty well there, despite coming 3rd. Short program was a bit tenative but clean, but the judges saw fit to place her below Nakano with a fall anyway. In the long she popped those 2 simpler jumps right at the end, but was otherwise flawless, landing all the most difficult things she tried, but with Nakano skating very well and landing the triple axel it wasnt quite enough for 2nd.
