Hello Everyone!

My Daughter (10 turning 11 in the fall) just enrolled into CanSkate in the Spring for a 6 week program, at the end of that she had received a ribbon for her level 3 agility & also tried out for the Synchro team - did 3-1hr sessions and two tryouts 2.5 hours in total. In June she was off for the month. In July she began CanSkate again for another 6 week program, but also simultaneously began summer camp with skating involved. Week of July 1 - did 1.5hr on ice plus her CanSkate, the week July 8 she did 3hrs of ice at camp plus can skate and July 15 did 4.5 hrs plus CanSkate and on the Friday they tested her and she was completed level 3 & 4 CanSkate. This week she did 3hrs of on ice at the camp and Wednesday night they tested her at CanSkate and she completed levels 5 & 6 and she also received pins for her Toe Loop & Waltz Jump & now as of today completed the Waltz + Toe Loop Jump combo.

However in watching her and discussions with the coach she is being told to get new skates with better support. She is already more than half done Bronze 1 and she is on the Synchro team officially.

I know typically with research you do a different boot for Synchro than a Freestyle, but being Freestyle is more her focus and I want to best try to prevent strains or injuries from improper skates and blades.

Any Assistance you can provide would be most appreciated! Thanks so much!

Hi and welcome! In order to help we need height/weight/foot type/anything else you think would be helpful.

Hello & thanks for the warm welcome!

She is about 4ft3 & 66lbs. I believe she has a Normal Arch with a stretched foot;big to small toe descending.

:)

foot type refer to that and let me know if her foot is more like Egyptian or Norwegian? IDK what you mean by "stretched foot".

She is most closely resembles an Egyptian! (I had to google foot types and got a different version!)

Thanks!
I actually embedded a chart in the link where it says foot type lol but it's okay if you didn't realise that. Brands for your daughter and her foot type: Riedell (Flair, Bronze Star), Edea (Overture, Chorus), possibly Graf (F4000). She's going to need a blade to go with whatever boot she chooses and would be fine with a tradtional MK Professional or John Wilson Coronation Ace.

If you don't mind saying, where in the world are you? We can suggest a proper professional fitter if you would like.

Good luck to her and you! :)

@Ic3Rabbit gave you good advice about what brands to look at, but it would help if you could narrow your location down a bit :). There are good shops and fitters all across the country. I live in Richmond, BC, but advising the Vancouver shop I've been going to for many, many years for my own boots and blades isn't going to help you much if you're in, for example, Halifax. You want a shop within driving distance for your daughter's skate needs, now and continuing into the future. Good luck!
