Professional Skating Association Announces 2022 "Edi" Awards

The PSA has announced its 2022 "Edi" awards:


Some awards of note (not all of them, see the website):

1. Betty Berens Award:
Established in memory of Betty Berens who gave unselfishly of her time and talent both on the ice and off. It is presented to a coach who has overcome adversity-physical or emotional-who has continued in dedication and perseverance to serve their profession with dignity and fortitude.

2. Sonja Heinie Award:
Presented to a female, professional skater or coach who has brought recognition to the sport in a positive and favorable manner

Mariah Bell

3. Gustave Lussi Award:
Presented to a male, professional skater or coach who has brought recognition to the sport in a positive and favorable manner

Nathan Chen

4. Diversity Equity and Inclusion Award:
The DEI Award honors the cumulative contributions of a person in the skating world who has advanced diversity, equity, and inclusion with contributions that have resulted in a positive outcome to their community or arena.

Rohene Ward accepted the award on Tai's behalf and she posted this:


5. Beacon of Change Award:
This honorary award recognizes a special person who is creating a pathway to enlightenment for how PSA and the skating community can develop an environment of inclusive recognition.

Timothy LeDuc

6. Action Photo of the Year Award:
Photos are judged on the quality, drama, balance, and the ability to have best captured the moment.

These are fantastic! I'm most thrilled about Mariah; that's a special recognition for the qualities and quality she brings to figure skating! Her smile alone is worth a million.

Are Mariah and Nathan "professional skaters"?

They are now. :) But seriously, if you look at the list of skaters who have won this award, many are actively competing. Since 2014, Jason, (2x) Adam (1X) and Nathan (3x) have won the Gustave Lussi. With Charlie White and Ben Agosto (not competing).
