1)Is it truth that Shen7Zhao made a mistake during their
free in final lift and still received two times
6.0 for tech.?
2) Do you think that any of the couples that performed tonight
can mach couples like Elena Berezhnaya/Anton Sikharulidze(sp?),
Jamie/David, Gordeeva/Grinkov ?
3)Have any of up named 3 pairs ever deserved 10 time 6.0 for
presentation?
4) Have any of up named 3 pairs actually got 10 times 6.0
for presentation?

I mentioned in another thread that the judges seem to be sending out the 6.0 with a bang. Watch for lots of sixes throughout the rest of the competition.

I really don't think it deserved 12 6.0s. It was great, but not even close to that many. All the medalists got sixes, so that should tell us they are going to be grossly overused.

On that last lift (which I have not personally seen) I will just say that many reports suggest it was not quite as planned, but technically not a mistake either.

On the 6.0's. I agree with others who have speculated we might see a stacked deck full of 6.0 at this comp - presumed last time in use. The truth we all need to remember is that the 6.0 is JUST a placement. Nothing more. When judges give 5.9's before the *fat lady sings* then 6.0's are the only option when a fatter lady sings so to speak.

This particular Championship has brought me home to the most significant flaw in my opinion with the 6.0 system. It ranks people, but does not evaluate distance between people.

If this were a horse race, the competitors would be ranked, without regard for distance (in terms of ribbons anyway) in order of crossing the finish line. Wouldn't matter if you won by a head or a mile.

I've realized the 6.0 system emulates that (no matter whether a head or a mile) even though in THIS sport, I personally think it should matter.

I know we have all learned over the years to somehow attach a 6.0 score to the word *Perfect*. But in this specific system, it only means a rank, and we would all be well served to consider that IMHO.

But at the end of the day, you still only care about the winner. You are still only 2nd if you loose by a nose (in your analogy) or one tenth of a point.

A judge don't have to give 6.0's if they don't want to do so, they can give both skaters a 5.9's.

In most sports, noone cares how close a game or a match is, just that a team won that match. Frankly only the loser will care and beat themselves over the results.

Besides, there isn nothing wrong with ranking people. If you are good, then you should be ranked 1st. Why is that not good?

It certainly looked like a mistake in the dismount of the final lift - pretty messy.

I like S&Z as much as, say, Ber/Sik or Sal/Pel (too young to remember G/G!) but it's a different kind of skating, more whoooosh and drama than the maybe more sophisticated finesse you got from the former pairs. But the tech is out of this world - as with all the Chinese pairs this year.

For me, S/Z's free at worlds last year stands as my favourite pairs routine ever....worth anything you like in terms of marks.

This year, as some have said, since they were (at least the judges thought so) better than Tot/Mar, they *had* to get sixes, since there was no room in the marks to give them less and still have them win the free.

If it upsets you, close your eyes and chant 10 times: the marks are just placeholders!

I don't think they deserved as many sixes as they got last night but I wonder how many judges boxed themselves into a corner by giving quite high marks to Pang & Tong and to Totmianina and Marinin. This is one of the reasons why I hate the fact that the judging is annoymous.

I can tell you how many judges got boxed in - virtually all of them!
Tot/Mar got 5/9s and 6.0s for pres. from nearly everyone, IIRC.

Yes you are right there is a strong possibility that all the judges got boxed in. Of particular interest would be the judge who gave a 6.0 to Pang & Tong!

Of course at the end of the event everyone ends up in a ranked placement, and of course the winner is the winner. But since there are multiple events in the competition. Just a straight ranking from event to event doesn't carry forward "the distance" as it does with COP. This is only my opinion. But I think if someone(s) have a clearly superior short program (or QR or CD, etc.) they should take extra points going forward. By the same token, if someone(s) have a mediocre early performance, but a superior final program I think the 6.0 system limits ability to move up.

1. There were a couple of indiscreet moments but T&M had such high marks that 6.0 was the only way to go.

2. To compare couples, imo, is to compare apples and organges. If you prefer the 19th centurz ballet stzle and are not open to innovation then you have zour answer. Ballet has come a long way since the 19th century. The Nutcracker of S&Z was perfectly balletic. They were nothing short of Superb. All the couples have their own style. The rest if personal subjectivity.

3. S&Z skated last and 6.0s make more sense if the lesser of the comparative teams have 5.9s. I prefer 5.95 as a top score..

4- Javem<<<<<'t a clue and I personallz do not like the mark.
