Regarding the flutz - why do commentators hold back their comments?

Both jumps take off from back outside edges but from different skates and from different toe picks

Joe, which jumps are you referring to? I was given this link from MKF, and to tell you the truth, I am still lost as to identifying jumps. Heck, I'm not even good at telling the diff between triples and quads !

Hi Patti - I was referring to the Toe Loop and the Lutz. I looked up the definitions in the MKF list and they are correct. Maybe I can make it easier for you. I'll try: I will be using the air rotations to the left or counterclockwise. Bear in mind that the same technique is used for rotations to the right or clockwise except for opposite feet mentioned for the former.

Toe Loop

A skater enters the jump on a right back outside edge; then he toes off with his left toe pick; and jumps and rotates in the air to the left for as many rotations he wants or is able to do. He then lands on the same right skate as he started on a back outside edge. It is not a difficult jump except for the number of air rotations.

Lutz

A skater enters the jump on a left back outside edge; then he toes off with his right toe pick; and jumps and rotates in the air to the left for as many rotations he wants or is able to do. He then lands on the opposite right skate from what he started out with. It is a difficult jump, mostly because the entry which should be on a back outside edge is often done by a back inside edge inadvertently. Hence the flutz because it becames a flip rather than a lutz.

Clear? If not just keep looking and even go through the motions without the air turns.

Joe
