Rozilla?

Hi, all, it's my first post. I've been a hopeless lover of skating since the Albertville Olympics, and I worship at the altar of Torvill and Dean...

So, my question is this? Why do so many people call Rosalynn Sumners 'Rozilla'? I assume it has something to do with an aggressive personality? Just not sure. Any light you can shed would be welcome.

Hi Tinika. I'm relatively new here as well.

The "Rozilla" nickname stems from Roz's work as a commentator; Sandra Bezic can be cruel and nasty but I think in some cases Roz has her beat hands down. I realize that in some cases the commentators do have to give honest critiques on what's taking place on ice but but Roz is one of those people who seems to let her personal biases and bitterness over whatever color what she says about the skaters.

Also (IMO) sometimes Roz seems to be way off base in some of the comments she makes.

I have not heard this nick name but when it comes to biases and cruelty, Sandra Bezic is THE worst. It is nearly impossible to hear a professional analysis and opinion from her. Roz is just a poor commentator, IMO.

I have heard that about Rosalind for years, but I can't recall her being "cruel".
She was very frank about a nightmarish performance Kurt did in a pro competition. He deserved every word of it though. He showed up never having done a full run through of his short program. He forgot his program and just stopped and gave up on it. She said that it was unprofessional. I don't think Kurt would deny it. (I love Kurt, btw) That was the same competition in which he forgot to bring his costume for the long.

Mainly, she talks too much and has an annoying voice. I would not say she is cruel, but I may have missed something.

Susanbeth, I do agree that her chief drawback is her voice. She sounds petulant when she says anything. She wasn't a good commentator by any stretch of the imagination, but I thought she was adequate with the exception of that voice. (She also shouldn't dance based upon my viewing of some SOI group numbers! )

Ah...it's making sense now! I don't know if I've ever heard her do commentary, but I can honestly say I don't recall her EVER doing anything but shaking her head and frowning at her marks in all her pro comps.

Edited to add: I assume that now, having finally married her looooongtime filthy-rich boyfriend, she's a little less bitter about life!

Vash don't get me started on Bitter Bezic. I could fill up a thread with all the negative and innaccurate commentary she's done. :disagree:
