Rusty Hanger Awards...somebody has to start it!

I was not crazy about MK's short program costume. Usually, I like red on her-but it did not have a flattering cut, IMHO. I think Joubert's LP get-up might win most dispensable. It reminded of the guy on Quisp cereal back in the day ("take me to your leader").

Lambiel's LP outfit looked heavy as if it would make you hot (come to think of it, he does look hot! But that is pervy from a 41 year old. I repent!)

I think it was Miki Ando in the qualifying rounds that I saw last night....a dark rust colored outfit....wasn't attractive at all.
 
Michelle's dress was okay, but I think she forgot to tuck her stockings into her boots! They were pulled over part of the skate boot, and the laces created a big lump on her feet. I hate the stockings-over-boots look anyhow (like Sarah Hughes likes to do), but this half-over-the-boots look was just as bad. :p

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed Michelle's stockings not tucked into her boots. The only other time I've seen her do this was at some pro-am before she left Frank Carroll. And she did it in all 3 rounds!!! I'm :scratch: :confused:

I just got a load of the LP ladies dresses. Oh, my goodness, what was Shizuka thinking withat that atrocity?? One cross would have been sufficient to get her point across! Talk about overkill.

Michelle's dress was gorgeous, but she ruined the look with that stockings-over-boots distraction.
 
I am a big fan of Carolina's, but that dress made her look like she had grass growing out of her butt. :rofl: :p :cool:
 
Tatiana Navka's costume for the free dance was hideous so add her to the rusty hanger list. The cutaways combined with the high collar and sparkles....awful, just awful.

I agree. Actually I'd wished she had kept the costume she had been using throughout the GP series, it was far more prettier (actually one of the best costumes Ihad seen in ice dance, and that's saying something!)

Rusty Hanger....

O.k., the Ice Dancers from Bulgaria in their LP coustumes...ugly black/patchwork whatever is was...just sooooo ugly! Not to mention that they did what I would call the most vulgar, tasteless lift in their LP - upside down and spread eagle is NOT a flattering position for any female!!

I too, really liked MK's purple dress in QR. It was so nice to finally see her in something with sleaves.

Am I going senile, or did Sasha's pink Nutcracker dress have a high neck and long sleaves at Nationals??
 
Loved Arakawa's costume

What a difference from alst year! I think she loved just fabulous! I also think that the number of crosses was fine, considering the music, location and time of Romeo and Juliet. I think it was very classy. The crosses were silver, not trashy looking (like in gold).

I also loved Michelle's dark blue number, and I was hoping that the gold horror from Nationals got donated to Salvation Army. Alas, she skated to it in the LP. I finally saw what folks were wondering during the nationals..her breasts did look unsymmetrical!

I totally agree about Bulgarians costumes and some really vulgar positions..funny b/c Maxim and Albena were interviewed a while back and they were very critical of dancers that show off female "assets". Also, Albena's wedgie was bad.

In fact, I have noticed too many wedgies during tonight's viewing..you spend thousands of $, and you still get poor fit?

I liked Shiz's costume, but in context, ANYTHING would look good compared to the pink cake monstrosity from early in the season.

On the wedgies. I think there is a Vast Fabric Conspiracy going on among the costume makers. They are CHARGING the skaters for enough fabric for a full costume, but cheating them in the end by delivering less fabric than they are paying for.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought MK's boobs don't look symetric in that gold dress. :)

If the dancers are going to keep doing the kinds of lifts most of them are doing, they should make ladies pants outfits MANDATORY for ice dance.

I'm giggling at all these comments! Great early Sunday morning humor!

I don't seem to have as a harsh an idea of what costumes look bad as you gals/guys....my worst complaint is the pale colors that just totally wash away and get lost in the white ice and white boards.

ITA. The only redeeming value of these really pale costumes is that while hiding the skater in the ice / boards, it tends to make wedgies less visible too.

I agree with both of these comments. For me the test of a good costume is how it looks in motion on the ice. I first realized this when Oksana was waiting to take the ice for her Black Swan SP. I hought she loked terrible with that tiara, but then she started skating and everything was beautiful. I felt the same way about Shizuka's crosses. They looked strange when she was standing there, but she looked very elegant except forr her awful skating, and she is the most improved for getting rid of the pink corset number from earlier this season.
