Well, everything went as expected… including the twizzles :rolleye:
That's what I was thinking until I saw Victoria and Nikita. Is there a "twizzle virus" in Zhulin's team? :scratch2:

Tomorrow is another day. Wishing for clean performances for everybody (spectacular performances if they are spanish, to be honest )

That's what I was thinking until I saw Victoria and Nikita. Is there a "twizzle virus" in Zhulin's team? :scratch2:

After the short program I felt a little discouraged (I agree with you, "twizzle virus" :drama: ) but I held my breath and jumped for joy when they completed the long program :yahoo:

Short articles in the Spanish press:
Sara Hurtado: "I dream of a podium" (Interview days before the Europeans) http://www.telemadrid.es/programas/...ueno-podium-9-2088181180--20190122030305.html
"The real objective is to overcome the eighth place of the European last year and overcome our season best, but not for that reason we stop dreaming, we work to fulfill those dreams, to achieve a feat", adds the Madrid skater.

Spanish dance continues its ascent (Story after Rhythm Dance) https://www.marca.com/otros-deportes/2019/01/25/5c4b46d6e2704ebe5e8b4640.html
Sara Hurtado: "We have been left with a bittersweet feeling, we have achieved the season mark, but we have also made several silly mistakes that we weren't having in practice, we will learn from the experience. We are going to render before time".

Yes, the FD is getting somewhere, finally! I enjoyed it a lot and it seems that the audience in Minks too, they were very noisy, specially with them. :clapper:

If they are the choosen ones for Worlds, a top 10 seems difficult for them this year, by the look of it there will be only 2 "free spots" for a lot of teams: GB, POL, USA, CAN, RUS, FR... all of them have teams aspiring for one of those spots too.

Sara and Kirill will need two clean programs... and something more. They still have two more months, exactly the same time than the other teams. We'll see. By now we have to wait for Spanish FED to make the announcement.

Making Top 10 at the Worlds is mission hard but not impossible for whatever Spanish team. Yes, we have to wait for the fed's ice-dance committee meeting and their decision. Hieloespanol says that Sara an Kirill practically secured the World's spot. But the Fed can for example invite both teams to Bavarian open, like it was two years ago, to see them competing internationally together once more.

Do you know who is sara biggest fan ? Nathalie péchalat. :)

On french eurosport she's been very vocal about how much she loves her.

For her the two spanish teams should 've been ahead of the pols and brits.
After fd she said to her co-host : "you aren't asking me which spanish team i will send to worlds?" the co-host laughed and said :" we know who" nathalie laughed and said: "yeah, i love her, i'm trying to be objective but..."

I've just updated their OP. It lacked information regardin 2018/2019 season. Also, a lot of videos have disappeared due to the YouTube cenzorship :( I've gone through all of them and only left the links to the ones that are still available.

It looks that after winning Spanish Nationals and having better results at the Europeans than Olivia and Adria, Sara and Kirill will be sent to the Worlds, but we're still waiting for Fedhielo's confirmation.

Yes, Sara has that effect in many people, me included as a fan, there's something very engaging in her. Maybe she is not the tradicional diva, but there's a lot of diva material in her, that's for sure (including the drama part :drama:): perfect for figure skating.

As for where in the ranking they should be... I agree with the ranking, that's the way they performed… H&K without the mistakes, would have the same score than the pols… but they did have mistakes. S&D have a great RD that is not developed and a FD that needs to improve the levels (and the ending)…

None of the spanish teams can guarantee a top 10 at worlds, but I think that H&K have more possibilities right now (judges, public, scores, margin of improvement…). Am I biased? In general I do prefer Sara&Kirill but, at this point, I only care for the second spot.

Interview with Sara Hurtado: "Javier Fernández inspires us" http://www.telemadrid.es/programas/...dez-inspira-9-2090880905--20190131030724.html

She achieved seventh place in the European Championship held this past weekend in Minsk, along with her partner Kirill Khaliavin. "This weekend has been very special, with the applause of a very dedicated audience, during the four minutes of the exercise the public fuses with you," says the skater.

Sara and Kirill left happy because they exceeded eighth place last year's European and especially because "despite the mistake I made the first day, we showed that we have a level to be among the best, if we manage to avoid failures we can advance a couple more positions. "

And now the World: It would be a surprise if they were not present at the World Cup that will be held in Saitama (Japan) next March. "We have been ahead of the couple formed by Adriá Díaz and Olivia Smart, we hope to be the chosen ones for that appointment, we train from now," she says.

It's finally confirmed: Sara and Kiril will go to the Worlds. Below the translation of hieloespanol's announcement:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BtdZBWfnQVy/

As it was already expected, the Spanish Real Federation of Ice Sports (RFDEH) has confirmed Sara Hurtado & Kirill Jalyavin will take the Spanish spot at the World. In a press note sent today to the media the RFDEH indicated that the decision was taken "after valuating the results obtained in the 2018-2019 season".
"It's been difficult to decide between one of the ice dance teams. The progress, the compromise and the level both couples have demonstrated over the season is very high. However, taking into account the results from the recent competitions and the valuation of the season made by the Federation's specialists, we have decided to choose Sara Hurtado & Kirill Jalyavin as our representatives in the World Championships. This is how Frank Gonzalez, President of the RFDEH explained the decision.
On her part, Laia Papell, RFEDH's Technical Skating Director, comments: "The level of both the couples is exceptional and so similar that taking the decision was very difficult. Olivia Smart & Adria Diaz, the other ice dance couple, also have competed at a very high level. For Sara & Kirill the objective will be to obtain two posts for Spain for the next years' Worlds.

I’m really happy for them, it was well deserved considering the results at Europeans and Nationals. Let’s hope for a top ten finish! It’s too heartbreaking to have to happen again

I think top ten finish will be very difficult even with two clean programs (I hope Sara will finally slay the twizzles in both the programs). They were 7th at the Europeans and from the couples that terminated above them I guess they can only fight for the positions with the Poles and the British. However, there will be 6 American and Canadian duos who, barring disastrous performance, will probably all terminate above Sara and Kirill. Anyway, since ice is slippery, anything can happen, but as of today, I think the most probable positions for the Spanish are 11-13.

I’m biased towards the Brits but at least in the UK our second team isn’t quite ready yet (but they’re improving!) to be competitive at worlds whereas Smart and Diaz are. Hopefully both the British and H/K can be top ten, both are at least better/competitive with the Canadanes and perhaps even the USAs H/B but I’m being optimistic.

I’m so happy for them, I think I usually prefer them as well, although it’s true that I usually enjoy S/D SD/RD better, and H/K’s FD...

But yeah, I think everyone only cares for that second spot right now. Gosh, it’s difficult, but everything is possible! [emoji1377]

The IFS Magazine article: HURTADO-KHALIAVIN DANCE INTO HISTORY (with comments from Sara and Kirill about Rostelecom 2018 ) https://www.ifsmagazine.com/hurtado-khaliavin-dance-into-history/

Interview with Sara in the "Cronómetro Deportivo": It was the skating that found me https://www.cronometrodeportivo.es/fue-el-patinaje-el-que-me-encontro-a-mi/

TRANSLATION

Q: Since you were 8 years old when you were skating, why did you decide to practice it?
A: I always say that it was the skating that found me, I was a very active girl and with my brother we did a lot of activities and ice skating crossed my path and ended up becoming a priority and part of my personality.

Q: In 2014 in Sochi with Adrià competes its first Olympic Games, a dream come true?
A: Going to the Olympic Games is always the goal of any athlete that is dedicated to high level sport and get it with Adrià for a country that didn't compete in this discipline ... I still don't believe the magnitude of what we achieve. The competition in Sochi occupies a special place in my heart.

Q: After Sochi, you decided to quit.
A: It was the season after those Games when I made that decision. The life that took us to those Olympic Games was very intense, the life of a person condensed in five truly intense years of work and coexistence, this made the work relationship not work and I began to feel far from my home and satisfied with my achievements. It was getting uphill from day to day because I no longer received satisfactions for all my work and I saw that I needed a change. And I knew how difficult it would be to find a new partner, someone from abroad who wanted to compete for Spain and who was my same age. In my head I was preparing to leave and start a new life outside the competition.

The environment in which we move the skaters is very small, one day Kirill wrote me, his partner was going through a difficult time but he wanted to continue competing, so we agreed to conduct a test and talk about our future goals, the "click" "It was almost instantaneous.

Q: In 2018 you returned to an Olympic Games, Pyeongchang 2018, with Kirill. How was that experience with a new couple and renewed illusions?
A: Almost as if it were the first time, because in 2018 I wasn't the same person as in 2014. This change of couple has had an impact on me. We support each other with the experience and the freshness of a new couple.

Q: What is the next objective in sight?
A: The closest is the Worlds in Saitama at the end of March. We try to finish the season at the top with a top 10 although it is truly complicated, although it is very difficult we will work for it. Although if it is top 12 also welcome, we want to finish better than what we started, improve our personal brand.

:) The interview lasts 20 minutes, the audio is in Spanish (starts at 1:00:30) in case you want to hear it, there is more information than the translated one (about how is the training, move to Moscow, Rostelecom 2018, Europeans 2019, etc) :cool14:

Excellent RD! Sara finally concentrated enough and didn't have any wobble in the twizzles. They hit all the KP and received level 4 for them. The same with the twizzles. A very deserved SB (72.45 points) and let's see where it places them at the end of the competition.

There is a new article about Sara in La Sexta TV Channel (in the web) El Sacrificio económico de ser campeona. I guess the link is geoblocked (I'm in Spain, I really don´t know) but the piece is available in two parts:

There's a 3 min. video, that you can also find in YT: The economic sacrifice of being a champion. It's in Spanish with no subs, you can see Sara and Sara's family and former coach taking about her.

There's also an article in Spanish but, here, you can see what google translate (and a bit of help) can do with it. But if you, after all the effort, still prefer the original spanish versión :drama:, you can find it in the next post. ;)

The economic sacrifice of being a champion
Sara Hurtado is historic. She was part of the first ice dance couple that represented Spain in the Olympic Games, is seven times spanish champion and last year was silver in the Grand Prix of Rostelecom with his partner, Kirill Jalyavin. Sara has achieved her dream, but she can not live on it. Discover her story in the following video.

Sara Campos Román Madrid 04/11/2019

Sara Hurtado dances on ice since she was seven years old. When you see her sliding on the skates you know she was born for it. He slips, turns, slips between his partner's arms and turns again. Smile. She is happy, training on the track that saw her born as a skater.

When Sara arrives at La Nevera de Majadahonda, she arrives at home. Everyone greets her with affection: "From the first day she entered with the rented skates, she has not taken them off again," recalls her mother, Pilar.

Sara dominates the track. She flows quickly, with open arms. The cold air moves her hair as she makes a small jump. And suddenly, she falls. She barely brushes the ice for a few seconds. She rises agile and continues to slide. As if nothing has happened. Its normal.

"I've never been afraid to fall, I know it's something necessary in order to learn." And ice skating is like that. Like life: "You have to be brave and surpass yourself, if you do not take risks, you will not know how far you can go." And Sara has gone very far.

"If you do not take a chance, you will not know how far you can go"

"I'm delighted I have her closer," says Pilar. In Moscow. Ninety days away. Sara can only be in the Russian capital for three months. "Tourist visa", explains. So he goes home often. The situation is not easy. No minority sport is. Sara has always had to train outside Spain because here there are no coaches for her modality.

"Going away from my family has been what has cost me the most and the hardest part now." Sacrifice is a constant in Sara's life. Also in his family's. With 26 years and many titles behind her back, the skater confesses that she can not be independent: "I am always at the expense of whether I have to ask my parents for money or not." But they are always prepared so that they do not lack anything. And her brother. And her grandmother too.

Sara's family counts the time from one Olympics to the next: "We know when four years have passed because the letter of 'you have finished paying the loan' arrives," says Pilar. They ask for a loan to go and watch Sara skate live. The Olympic loan, they call it: "Olympic for the time and for the amount of money that has to be paid back". And she laughs. For not crying. Although she does also: "The most heartfelt tears are those of frustration for not being able to give a little more". But pride always brings back the smile: "A lot of what Sara is, we have not taught her, she has learned it in life".

Sara's passion has permeated all the elements of skating, also the artistic part. Since competing in individual, she has made her own costumes. Create the design, look for the fabrics, find the right dressmaker ... "Sometimes I have seen myself in difficult times because I did not know who to turn to or did not know how to put an idea on my body". Trial and error. Until this year. For the first time, a professional designer has contacted her. Juan Vidal "It was a light," she admits.

"Sara has arrived where she is by tenacity and by soul"

Sara would not be Sara Hurtado without the unconditional support of her family, but neither without her tenacity and her discipline: "She has come where she is for determination and for soul, because she skates with her heart," says Iván Sáez, her first coach. And to think that she was about to leave it.

After winning five Spanish championships, competing in several Europeans, a World Cup and an Olympic Games, Sara decided to stop skating with her previous partner. The magic was lost and I was no longer motivated. So she was consistent and very brave: "It was the hardest decision of my life, but now I feel it was the best I could do."

She was lucky. Finding a dance partner is complicated. But not impossible. When she was ready to retire, Kirill Jalyavin appeared. And she decided to try: "I had nothing to lose," she says. Indeed, she had a lot to gain. Sara and Kirill won a historic silver medal at the Grand Prix of Rostelecom last year, and were twelfth in the last World Cup. Now the challenge is Beijing 2022. Although Sara is clear: "Everyone dreams of an Olympic medal, but in reality what matters is what is happening now, that I can live skating and that is a dream".

"Nunca he tenido miedo a caerme. Sé que es algo necesario para aprender". Y es que el patinaje sobre hielo es así. Como la vida: "Hay que ser valiente y superarse a una misma. Si no te arriesgas, no vas a saber a dónde puedes llegar". Y Sara ha llegado muy lejos.

"Si no te arriesgas, no vas a saber a dónde puedes llegar"
