this side conversation that has started reminds me of one of the final quotes from Disney's Miracle (the "biopic" of the US 1980 Olympic Hockey Team... a true underdog story) when Kurt Russel as "Coach Brooks" mentions how the olympic sport has changed.

"..Now they use dream teams. I find that term ironic, since now that we have dream teams, we seldom ever get to dream..."

Now I get that Hockey is different, in some ways, to skating in how the olympic team is picked.. it was then and now... but I can understand the pros that just seem to show up every four years for that one more chance being a little disheartening... I mean heck Michelle didn't even have to try out at US Nationals to be given a spot - yes she was 'tested' but I'm not convinced just the idea of having Michelle on the team wasn't in the minds of the USFS judges... Emily almost missed out on her - what we know now - one chance. That she didn't place on the podium is somewhat irrelevant as MK said herself if she skated the way she was THEN she wouldn't have come close either...

Sometimes it shouldn't just be about medals. (That being said if the pro comes back and skates their butt off against the rest of the competition and DESERVES the spot based on THAT NIGHT then by all means put them on the team...)

You also made me realize something else... in both of her last seasons, 04/05 and 05/06, Sasha attended only ONE GP event in total. I know there were injuries involved, but it seems like she doesn't make much of an effort to attend GP events if she isn't 100%. In fact I was at Skate America '04 in Pittsburgh, both Michelle and Sasha were supposed to come, and neither did. That was depressing. I hope Sasha doesn't blow it off again this year, especially considering how far Lake Placid is for me...

Sasha withdrew from both her GP events in 04/05, citing a recurrence of her back injury. She withdrew from Skate America in 05/06, again citing injury. The last time Sasha skated a full GP season was the fall of 2003---six years ago.

Since Sasha won't be starting full training until June, she will have only 5 months to get all her jumps back and become familiarized with two new programs before Skate America. Even if the ISU decides she can have two GP events, I doubt that Skate Canada would pick her; if she received one of the earlier events, it's doubtful that she would be ready.

Also, this one is a little bit on the bad side. This is OK on FSU, but has a negative connotation on Golden Skate (or is it the other way around?)

Thanks for saving me from my next post Tonichelle. The Olympics has not been 'amateur' since the cold war-and then only certain countries respected the amateur rules judging from post-cold war data that has since come to light.

juniors bad back, bad hip, sore ankle,
seniors bad back , creak in back, cold, flu, now tenditis,
Not to say it doesn't hurt and it might affect jumps etc, but that is my problem with her, She always claim some kind of injury when things, results, points and scores don't go her way. Sasha does. Being a (professional) great skater is that you don't always use your injury when the results don't go your way. You accept it and move on.

To be fair you really can't single Sasha out for complaining about injuries. I don't recall her whining about her injuries. I have to admit you have a humorous way of expressing yourself that gives me a chuckle.
