4CC! Yuzuru, Satoko, Shoma and Keiji are competing, they should do it in the gala

I loved that initial twitter video with Yuzu Satoko Keiji Nobu doing it at NHK. Would looove to see the whole team Japan doing it, Yuzu would be so up for it.

And my attempt at putting together a rough translation

Figure skater Satoko Miyahara is having without a doubt a brilliant career.

When she was 14 years old, she stood out when she finished 3rd at the Japanese National Championships and has won 3 consecutive National titles since she was 16 up until now, at the age of 18. When she was in her second year of high school she unexpectedly finished 2nd at her first World Championships and this season she has won her 2nd consecutive silver medal at the Grand Prix Final.

These results are the fruit of the amount of practice she does. She said she lacks the physical abilities needed to jump higher so she kept practicing over the course of a long time and has worked to correct her underrotations in order to have clean landings. She can perform spins with speed and is able to change the rotational direction from left to right. With the addition of intricate steps and jumps performed in the second half of the program (thanks to her good stamina), she has been able to raise her scores steadily.

In recent years she has also received assistance to improve her performing abilities. This season Miyahara has truly shown a completely different expression after working with ballerina Miyako Yoshida. For example, at the beginning of her short program “Musetta’s Waltz”. When the music begins she glides expressing joy with her eyes and smile. The music is elegant and she uses her arms doing up and down movements. She has become a different person compared to the past years.

People usually get interested in skaters in a natural way, but for Miyahara the 2015 World Team Trophy was an important event. Back then she was still shy and serious but as she was cheering for her team waving the Japanese flag, she gave an impression of familiarity and people were quick to embrace that.

Although high expectations have been present for a long time, she is currently 18 years old. That means she has been dealing with such hopes since she was 14 or 15 years old. But Miyahara did not give in to the pressure, on the contrary, she continued to get good results, she continued to make efforts, she won 3 titles at Nationals and has become a dignified athlete in Japanese figure skating history.

She is constantly facing younger skaters as well as successive new rivals from Russia but she seems to have steadily reached her current position by going at her pace, without being influenced by the surroundings.

She is standing much higher than it was expected 1 year ago, or 2 years ago. She has evolved far beyond the limits of our imagination and in another year, at the PyeongChang Olympics, she may stand higher than we can imagine now. In the next year, I would like to follow Satoko Miyahara’s pace with carefulness and great detail.

Well, the pressure is on.

I simultaneously find this kind of recognition long overdue, but also... maybe conveniently a good thing for her given how intense the media attention could get in Japan.

While i am glad Satton finally got the recognition she deserves, I secretly wish she doesn't have to be too burdened by the pressure of expectations. But she is a tough cookie, i am confident she can do it.

Ganbatte Satton!!!

Great article! Satoko deserves such recognition, she's a precious talented girl!
Hopefully she will shine at 4CC again, and not get underscore at Worlds like last year.
I don't worry for AWG, I don't see who can pose a threat to her atm.

Hopefully she can get double golds, great motivation for the worlds then to get focused on the very important Olympic season :)

Satoko was on Shizuka Arakawa's Friends + show today. Japanese fans have tweeted some of the things they discussed during the interview.

- she arrives early at the station so she does window shopping, reads books, and listens to music on her brand new phone
- Shoma's aunt gave her a handmade bag to put her skating boots in
- she and Marin bought monkey plushie shaped edge covers
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C3bADO8VUAEMtJD.jpg
- jumping the 3-3 combination in the second half of her SP is very hard for her so when she struggled in practice her coaches advised her to change the layout but she doesn't want to give up and continues to work
- Shizuka told her "you're surprisingly stubborn" and she replied with a shy "yes"
- she gets along very well with her parents and she talks to her mother a lot
- she did a pairs lift with Stephane Lambiel at Friends On Ice
https://twitter.com/icehamadagroup/status/826073047316574211
- the dress she wears for "Hernando's Hideaway" was her own idea
- of all the advices she got from coach Hamada, one of them has left a big impression on her; at this season's Nationals just before the FS Hamada told her "go ahead and aim towards victory!"
- of all the things coach Yamato told her the one she remembers most is "when you skate a good SP you mess up your FS" and viceversa
- Satoko asked Shizuka what the atmosphere is like at the Olympics and Shizuka told her anything is possible at the Olympics but the most important thing is to enjoy herself
- her desire to go to the Olympics is stronger than before but her desire to skate two strong programs remains the same
- for the Olympic season she wants to skate to a piece of music that suits her most in order to be able to show her strengths
- at the 4CC she wants to remember the feel of the ice so that if she goes to the Olympics she will have a strong sense of familiarity
- her goal is to skate her best SP/FS at Worlds but her priority is to help assure 3 spots for the Olympics
- fans noticed her wearing nail polish (rare for her indeed)

Ahhh! Is this Chicago? Chicago has a rink like that....... (but not sure how old it is, haha).

Did I read somewhere that she lived in Houston when she was a little girl?

^^^ Oh no - hope it's nothing serious.

That rink looks like the Galleria in Dallas....with the big Christmas tree in the center....

Sorry to hear she had to W/D. Hoping she has a speedy recovery.
