Satoko Miyahara

what a fighter, what a competitor, what an inspiration! she is delivering against all odds, never thought i would see her clean at SA, seems like everything is going according to the plan, she is getting better and hopefully she will skate clean (with higher jumps preferably ) at Nationals too to book her ticket for Olympics (my poor baby Mai though :sad21:), also cant believe 71 PCS which was well deserved (deserved even more!), some thought it will be hard for her to reach 70 cause she is coming from long break , so glad thats not the case :luv17:

also, that EX is so WONDERFUL!!! still no info about choreographer?

I'm also very thrilled to see her FS awarded with 71 PCS (that's the highest she's got for a long program) :hap10: as I said earlier, I would have been ok with her not winning as long as she skated a better FS than at NHK but my expectations were far exceeded. That's all I'm going to say about scores, I'm just too happy and amazed that she has displayed such a good form after just a month of jumping. What an inspiring journey to witness.

She and Wakaba would be a great pair to send to the Olympics- such different skaters and complement each other perfectly.

A pleasure to see her winning! She also became first alternate to GPF, her participation that will depend on how is Zhenya’s foot (insane the number of injuries there is this year, hopefully this won’t affect her anymore, even though she has to be careful regarding the bone issue she has).

if only people would be so quick, pliable and sensitive to appreciate the quality of Satoko's skating overall, care input in every aspect of performance, maturity and balance in her expression, class with whom she's carrying herself, all after almost one year separation from skating, like they are to pick up her jumps and put them under microscope...Some really need to understand that Satoko did not judged herself and her skate/execution, so she does not deserve all this outrage expressed after SA. Satoko having smaller jumps than other top Ladies should never be an excuse to make less of her - I wish that most of those top Ladies skaters would have Satoko's elegance and quality of non-jump elements, let skaters excel in areas they are strong into and let the reward be high for that. And quite a double standard shown from some being bitter over judging and scores at SA in regards to Satoko...But she's always been the one to pick out for the worse, rarely for the best.

Apologies for the above, but it pains me to see the amount of negative projection on Satoko over things she has no influence of and this 'over-the-top' reactions that she never deserves to win because of her jumps. I mean, really? It's not that she got 150 out of sudden or breaking some records out there; she produced an overall quality of performance out there, backed by steady technical execution and she got rewarded for that, with score being pretty consistent to the current standard of Ladies' scoring in my opinion. My biggest joy is that she's got PB in FS PCS, breaking 70 pts finally - it is a proof that hard work, persistence and lack of compromise made in regards to integrity of performance were seen and appreciated. I may be in delusion/mistaken, but she seems taller and 'bigger' in terms of presence on ice, her physique is much more defined right now and her jumps seem bigger, with fast rotation and overall elegance/effortlessness in them - and this actually helps in how judges are receiving Satoko in my opinion.

Her 'Madame Butterfly' creates a special moment - it makes me see the story through her eyes, she mixes beautifully strength/power with lyricism. I love how intricate the choreography is, making this whole theme used so many times unique and custom fitted for Satoko, her sensibility, musicality, way of expressing herself. My favourite thing overall in that FS is how well movement matches highs and lows of music, how picture created, expression is constantly engaging, how effortless storytelling looks, how deep it is anchored with skater. My favourite moment in particular - step sequence that creates multi-dimensional experience for those who are watching (and are willing to see it): every step, hand move, head gesture, stop, tempo variation has purpose and meaning. Also, her spins really makes you wonder about their beauty and quality - Satoko is a rare example where spins are a feat to admire and fawn over in every program, not an afterthought to throw in the program.

Tiny Queen made a big comeback.

This. All of this. Thank you. :clapper:

Now that the long program has been performed almost to perfection (Satoko will stay in the United States after this competition to meet Tom Dickson), I've discovered plenty of lovely details.

This lunge before the 3Lo seems pretty challenging, it doesn't give her as much time to prepare the jump as she had before
https://youtu.be/xrJjV9Wen8M?t=50s

Spiral into twizzle with both arms up
https://youtu.be/xrJjV9Wen8M?t=2m57s

Another difficult transition into the 3S

This transition out of the 2A on one foot is probably my favorite, it looks effortless

The layback spin is right after that and I love how the music builds with every revolution. Tom Dickson really knows how to use Satoko's laybacks, the one in The Planets was also placed on a key change of music, between the Mars StSq and the Princess Leia part of the program.

As with every program of Satoko's both the SP and FS this year get better with every new performance. Here's hoping that Satoko won't experience pain again and will stay injury free from now on. I read a quote of coach Hamada's in a new article and she said her body power is coming back but one more injury like the stress fracture and it could all be over in a second.

Thats what I replied to one of those Russophile fans. Sure, we all get that Satoko's jumps are an issue but that does not deny that she has some of the best non jumps and arguably the strongest basic SS and interpretive skills and refinement that deserves high PCS. Even in her TES, she got most of her GOEs from the non jumps with very little on her jumps. Yet so many haters only latched on to her small jumps and demand review and calls for UR, without realising that it is the TP that calls that, not Satoko. And those cries of why she can even receive +1 GOE on jumps without acknowledging that small jumps aside, Satoko tend to land them with good and smooth flow, well timed to the musical structure and some nice entries (lunge into 3R, clockwise and counterclockwise hop walley transition to 3S) and nice running exits and transitions. The same lot also will furiously defend why the likes of Zagitova and Medvedeva deserves those +3 GOEs on tano/rippon jumps and selectively choose to only see small jumps from Satoko without acknowledging her strong bladework.

I just wish people will choose to see both the good and the bad without just seeing only the BAD from one dimension without acknowledging the good.

my take on all skaters is that there is so much to appreciate and respect from different background, perspectives and approaches, yet people tend to look - and judge - all skaters, this variety presented using only ONE standard/factor, usually chosen by personal preference/prejudice in favour to their favourite skater(s). Looking at that, how do those people are expecting to see 'justified' results and 'justice', if there is so much of one-sided look existing for all skaters?

We tend to expect too much of one type of skating from skaters of different build, different speed, different dynamics and areas they excel on - what about expecting an excellence, emotion, quality, style, engagement, entertainment from all, universally, sourced from their respective abilities and actual performances? Satoko is for me an example of that beauty/quality in her respective aesthetic; myself, I don't need another skater, even the best, to measure her skill and way she moves me by her performances. People are paying too much attention on things particular skaters do not have - what about respecting those they actually have, and are rewarded for them, what about that balance between seeing good in equal to bad You mentioned?

It's already a tough season to live through - so many injuries and broken dreams, paths of skaters and yet people are still finding their ways to put skaters down, make less of them just because they are not agreeing with results, scoring, judging - for what is worth? Will this change anything, help your favourites? Personally-inflicted vile, hate should never be considered as weapons you want to gun your favourites with, especially directed at his/her fellow competitors. Satoko for me is one of the most gracious, humble and classy skaters currently competing - her actions, the way she craves competition for performance, skating itself shows the amount of determination, fire and dedication she puts into her work, especially coming back after severe injury with 1 year off ice. And she keeps to respond for any critic in the best way possible - by showing growth, maturity, elegance and quality of her skating, the language she's the most fluent about.

what about K'n'C - Mie Hamada was 100% more excited than Satoko herself:laugh:, she was like jumping out of joy there while Satoko seemed to acknowledge things more steadily. It shows - yet again! - how important is the bond she formed with Hamada, she has twice more joy in victories and twice more support in hard times:)

and hi matmuh-celebrity:cool14::ghug:

ok, i have a confession to make, when i 1st saw Hamada at K&C i thought she was too much but after reading her interviews, esp the one about JW 2013? where Satoko skated clean but got hammered by UR calls, and both of them were shocked, after that Hamada decided to hold her students' hands no matter the outcome (ok, may not be word by word but similar meaning i hope  ), now i get it, they have been through so much together and her joy and excitement towards Satoko is so geniune, its one of my favourite coach-student relationship :luv17:

btw, dont spoil me too much, i can get use to being a celebrity :laugh:
