Satoko Miyahara

yes, yes, YES!! i cant tell express how happy i am for her, svery well deserved silver medal!! :cheer:  and audience's reaction even before she finished her program!! it must be great feeling and motivation for her, she is getting more confident with every performance (and probably helps her jumps too? cause they looked so much better to me ) and since noone posted her program videos yet, here they are

Short
BESP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSUqyJAxlMU
UHD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XAxWTxT90g

Long

Gala: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZbt0sYqt94

Medal Ceremony: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pt3l0MYnj5M

and i have a perfect song for her, isnt she lovely? isnt she wonderful? (esp 1st gif!)

i wanna say, i really enjoy BESP commentators but i dont understand how they think her SP was "disappointing" since her only mistake was flip edge, i can understand their opinion of "music being a back drop" even though i dont agree but disappointing short? not at all. CBC commentary was fun Kurt playing Dick Button while admiring Satoko's "simple, clean and pure" spiral  and Frog lady jumping up and down was quite funny too
Thanks for the links! But regarding the "disappointing" matter, are you sure you meant them? I don't hear them saying at any time that her SP is disappointing. Same for UHD. They (BESP) just pointed out that Satoko's team (or the public coz they were whistling loudly or both) didn't like the score.

Most of the commentary made are about her small jumps, but also how fast she rotates to compensate. Considering we know Satoko IS working on her jumps, because she's aware she needs to get them bigger, and how long it can take to have them "improved", we can expect big things for her in the future. And as you said, I also have the impression that her jumps are already better.
The fact that she got 68 in her SP after an edge call on her flip gives me hope, because that means that a clean skate will get her very soon into the 70+. She already reached the +140 club, so it's just a matter of months (or days, since Nationals is close and she can reach it, even if it won't count as PB).

They said it after her LP (If i m not misunderstanding ) that " just like Wagner, she has come out a day later after a real disappointment and shown us the skater she was couple weeks ago when she won in Nagano" , but as i said i enjoy their commentary and agree most of their criticism but this one, i dont agree with

Ah ok! Then no, you misunderstood. The disappointment was the low score in the SP, not the SP itself. Because she only got 68, following an edge call. But they do like her SP, they said it in Nagano as well. :)

Well, they compared her "comeback" with Ashley's, who had step out and fall at SP and sounded like her performance was "disappointing", maybe i am reading too much into it and didnt want to sound all defensive and all since i really enjoy them, but Satoko is my precious, must defend Tiny Queen at all costs

Then you read too much into it, lol! Don't worry, the comment was not offensive at all, they never meant that the SP was disappointed, only that the result was.
It was the truth since both Satoko's and Ashley's teams were disappointed at their respective SP result. As you said, the difference is that Ashley did perform badly in the SP while Satoko got an edge call on the flip, but it still resulted into both having lower scores than what they both could possibly get.

And the tiny queen did make a comeback, since she made no mistake this time and gave high-quality performance, just like Ashley did: They both didn't let the SP results get to their heads and both fought for it. Thus, why the BESP compared the two.
I hope it makes more sense. :)

EDIT: I love how the CBC commentators mentioned the "Tiny Queen" nickname on the forums and how it fits her perfectly.

Haha I love how "Tiny Queen" seems to have caught on with commentators. Even Phil Hersh used it in a tweet of his!

Does this photo show Satoko's dress at the GPF banquet?
Very cute. And so nice for Miki to pose with all the Team Japan ladies.
No offense to Marin, but it's funny how she looks a bit like a kid who tried to play dress-up. :laugh2: Though red is really her color.:agree:
Didn't we see Satoko with this dress before? She must really like it. Not my style, but she looks cute in it. :3 :luv17:

Some quotes from an article by icenetwork:

"I never thought I could get more than 140 points for my free program," she said with a big smile. "I'm very satisfied with my performance! I try to do a lot of run-throughs with the music and repeat that every single day. I carried the confidence I got at NHK (Trophy) into this competition."

Miyahara skated to Franz Liszt's "Un Sospiro."

"When we first created this program, we set the theme as first love," she explained. "As I started skating this program over and over, I started to use that idea and I felt I was expressing my love toward skating. Now that feeling makes me perform that program more elegantly."

Here are some great fancam videos from GPF:

A must-see interview with coach Yamato Tamura. Thanks to ice-kingfisher for the translation and to luv flapper for uploading it.

“As a coach of course I have to talk about the technical side too, but I want to support her(Satoko) so her heart won’t break. From now until the Olympics, there will definitely be tough times, and in those times, when others nitpick and criticise her, I think it’s also my job to protect her so she won’t get hurt each time that happens.”

Does anyone have link to the Japanese commentaries for both SP and LP? I can't find them, but it should be somewhere.

thanks for sharing, really A MUST SEE interview, esp for the ppl who thinks she always chooses the easy way out, doesnt work hard, doesnt try to improve; you can have all the talent in the world but if you dont work hard you will only waste your talent, she may not be the most gifted skater (Yamato thinks she is slowest learner lol ) but once you put your mind into sth you can succeed, hardwork is one of the biggest gift one can have and she has it, keep working hard Satoko and show us your beautiful skating time and time again

and he cried during medal ceremoy at worlds? ahhhhhh so sweet!

finally carved some time to write something in this thread...

I am truly amazed by our Tiny Queen Satoko, was a fan since her first senior season and after GFP became even hardcore fan of her. Glad she has so many supporters :)

She is a great successor of Mao's impeccable skating skills, posture, interpretation abilities, projecting on ice and elegant presence. She is tiny, but her skating speaks volumes for me - she's really captivating while skating. Reading interviews I can only admire - same as in other Japanese skaters' case - a great work ethic, a strive for progressing, for surpassing difficulties.

This seasons' programs are on point for her - an energetic SP and lyrical FS. Both beautifully choreographed in my opinion - like Mao for me she's not a skater who needs special tricks, she needs to showcase her beautiful lines and - not like maaaany skaters nowadays - her skating is all about solid impression, not for instant effect or COP tactics.

And what is fantastic is her relationship with coaching team - both are very supportive and it is obvious they stand by her side no matter what. Satoko playing with coach Yamada in KnC is my everything when it happens :), same happiness goes for Shoma with coach and Elena with Inna.

In Barcelona she showed her strength and how beautiful skating is - thank you Satoko!!! Keep working hard and take only constructive critics as motivation:thank:

So nice to see Satoko headlining the National Championships on Fuji TV's official poster
http://www.fujitv.co.jp/sports/skate/japan/
I really like this poster concept, shades of grey with only the color of the costumes. I think the title will go to either Satoko or Mao. Rika could make a surprise too (the FS is definitely her best program this season), but she'll likely get bronze (or silver if either Satoko or/and Mao bomb and I REALLY hope they won't...:slink:).
Less than one week to go... do we know if there'll be livestream yet?

Satoko is the most consistent lady in the field so depending on what Mao is going to do, she has chances to defend her title. The competition will be broadcast live but it's next to impossible to find a live stream from the Japanese channels.

Agree on Satoko's being consistent, this is a clear advantage she has on Mao for now. And since we can't know if Mao will skate on top of her game (her health is low since NHK), the results can't be predicted for now... We just know it's very likely going to be between Satoko or Mao.

Shame for the livestream. 😔 If there's really none, I guess I'll settle for live tweets then and wait for videos...

Hello guys~ I just wanna stop by here to say (late) congratulations for Satoko. She did great and her consistency is pretty amazing.
I find myself getting drawn (if not addicted lol) to her programs this season so much. I started loving Firedance music first but then enjoy her free program more and more. :agree2:
Both of her programs work so well for her and she's a lovely skater (love her layback-biellmann) -yay for tiny people!
I hope for the good result for her in Japanese Nationals! :cheer:
