Satoko Miyahara

I don't understand why people think that small jumps are easier.I did figure skating for a long time, and I assure that there isn't a easy way to do the jumps.Satoko doesn't jump very high but she rotates fast, and that is not easy to do. So I bet most of the people who say that never skated or did double jumps (or triples).

Thank you for sharing your experience as an actual figure skater. It's exactly what I imagined, it's not easy to rotate so fast either.

I totally agree. I've seen skaters at my old rink rotating quite slowly when jumping, not matter how high. It was very hard for them to improve this. Also, commentators are always noting that while Satoko jumps low she always rotated SO fast it is impressive. I agree. That's what I first notice when Satoko got my attention: how fast she rotates.
If she manages to keep that speed (or at least close to) when improving her jumps, we're in for big surprise like 3A, one day. Satoko did say she wanted to work on it one day, didn't she?
On a fun note, one of the Brit commentators once said "If she jumps higher, it would be quads." lol, he's not that wrong, after all. But Satoko will find a good balance and not try to go for crazy jumps (3A is very hard but not a crazy jump to me), I trust her on that. :)

She did, she said she wanted to add it in the near future. I personally think she can do it. Shoma Uno couldn't land a 3A for years until he finally figured out what he needed to do: not to get more elevation, but more distance. If Satoko will learn how to jump with distance across the ice, then she can definitely rotate a 3A.

Good. :) I remember once back when Brian (Joubert) was competiting (years ago, I don't remember if it had been during his 2006-2007 golden season or around that time) that Yagudin gave him tips on his quads, especially on the fact that he must not go too high but, instead, gain more distance. That helped him a lot. The fact that it helped Shoma as well on his 3A is not a surprise.
You're right, it's definitely something she can learn to do in the future. Hopefully, she will.

She is also aware that her 3-3 is not solid enough (still prone to underrotations and whatnot) and that's why she's only jumping it in her SP. She said that as soon as her 3-3 combination will become more reliable, she will use such combinations in the FS. With a good 3Lz-3T and a 3A, she can become a powerful skater one day.

very happy for Tiny Queen Satoko - her consistency and constant improvement on performance and scores are quite remarkable looking at ladies' field.
Agree with practically all above - the argument about prerotated and small, ured jump is getting old...I'd rather see more Satoko's consistency with her jumps than pop fest/fall fest from bigger jumpers among ladies. Satoko built herself as a valuable skater, then competitor many years with hard work and persistency. In such competitive field like Japanese one I imagine that she had to maintain focus, competitive readiness and high spirit all this time in juniors, then transitioning to senior level - it all prepared her so strongly for big competition in international scene, hence so amaznig consistency. And above all that she is a warrior - she can be tiny, her jumps are not the biggest, but her skating and personality are her biggest weapons which she can use excellently.

Wishing all the best in FD, break PB there too!!!:cheer:

Everyone thinks they are part of the technical panel :handw: I watched her on Eurosport earlier and the commentator (who is an actual skater) said she definitely managed to clean up her jumps and there were no underrotations in the SP. Then I read the forum and everyone is busy measuring the degrees of her take-offs and landings :drama: Blasphemy! She prerotates and underrotates and she gets away with it! In fact she doesn't jump at all and she gets away with it! Dear god where are the underrotation calls, the edge calls, the downgrades.

Slow-motion videos of her jumps won't fix the judging system. Complaining about her technique won't fix the judging system. As long as the judges were only able to give her a single point in PCS over Gracie Gold's disaster skate (did anyone even bother noticing this?) I don't care about her TES being inflated. If I cared about every single thing the judges have done wrong so far, my hair would turn grey. She's right where she should be in this competition.

We're going to hear more of these complaints as Satoko continues her rise. In fact, she has been underscored in the past. Only now she's beginning to get scores she deserves. I don't see the PR and UR. People get picky with who they don't like.

Eh, the more successful Satoko becomes, the more complaints we'll be hearing :handw: Honestly, I just leave ladies event threads after the competition finishes so I don't have to read all the complaining. For a long long time, Satoko was constantly being underscored with insanely low PCS marks and underrotation marks on almost all her jumps. With her outstanding consistency, she's finally starting to get the scores she deserves. It's only because she's beating other people's favorites that they're so mad...

I honestly find it hard to even read competition threads for comps that she's in. People are just so blinded by their dislike for her, or maybe it's jealousy? Whatever. Like everyone else said the more successful she is the more haters she'll have. I hope she's able to nail it tomorrow and win!

Go Satoko!!! What a crime that she consistently skates well and is a joy to watch.

Wise choice. I was wondering why she's avoiding doing 3-3 in LP as well, but it does make sense. I hope she fixed her 2L on her 3-2-2 combo, since it had problems at Nationals. But I enjoy her 2A-3T, it will become even bigger in time. :)
I like how she's working on her jumps details by details. Too many skaters are all too eager to go right into big jumps without first correcting the problems they have.

Go Satoko!!! What a crime that she consistently skates well and is a joy to watch.

lol, spot on! :agree:

That's what I had thought sometimes, I mean how she can rotate that fast...it must be difficult than we are imaging.

Satoko, our Tiny Queen, is the new Four Continents Figure Skating Champion! :hap10: Onto the Worlds!

Congrats Satoko! The long program is so lovely, she interprets de music perfect:luv17: And her interview before the competion in english, so cute.

This might seem off beat, but to me she is like a little bonsai tree. Small, delicate, never going crazy, but beautiful to look at and appreciate. That is also how I see her skating. Nothing unnecessary or big, but picturesque and always "there." This is a good thing.

Congrats to Satoko. I took a break from watching skating and I've realized that the improvement in her performance skills has improved leaps and bounds. I seldom say this, but I wish her FS had been longer since it's so beautiful to the point of heart breaking. They need to make a Satoko treasure music box.

I was in tears at the end, I was sooooo happy! :hap57: Congratulations for gold, Satoko! You deserve it! Having big hope for World! :hap93:

I think this was the best performance of her FS, not only because she got a new personal best, but the interpretation was gorgeous. Barring injuries or other unforeseen circumstances, the World title is between her and Medvedeva and practically nobody else.
