Satoko Miyahara

Bad news today.
https://www.daily.co.jp/general/2017/03/15/0010002289.shtml

Satoko Miyahara has resumed practicing the 3-3 combination for her participation at the World Championships.

JSF official Yoshiko Kobayashi has checked on her at the end of last week and said “Despite the pain, she’s a strong kid. Since the toeloop makes her leg hurt, practice is somewhat restricted. However she is carefully following the instructions of the doctor and the trainer.”

She’s not at her 100% yet but she continues practicing with careful adjustments.

Coach Hamada mentioned, “We are worried about the effects this would have over next year so we’re always evaluating the current situation”.

The 3-time National champion is focusing on the World Championships while struggling against pain.

this is worrying news. :(

:(. Hope Satoko heals well. I trust her and her coaching and support team to make the best judgment as to whether she'll compete at Worlds.

(rough summary)
On the 15th in Taipei Coach Hamada revealed Miyahara plans to participate in Worlds and she's preparing for it. Since Miyahara's pain still remains, Coach Hamada explained that she'll keep her eyes on Miyahara's condition carefully until just before Worlds. According to Hamada, Miyahara is willing to participate in Worlds and she's already re-started working on 3-3 etc.

(rough summary)
On the 15th it was revealed Miyahara is back in full-intensive training. She re-started working on 3-3 as well as run-throughs. Coach Hamada said "Since she wants to participate in Workds, she's preparing for it." Yoshiko Kobayashi of JSF went to see her training last week. Kobayashi explained "She's a type who's resistant to pain. Her 3T is still restricted, though. She's training listening to what her doctor and trainer say." Kobayashi said Miyahara is not 100% OK yet and doing preparations cautiously. That said, she explained "Her preparations are going properly" and emphasized that basically Miyahara will participate in Worlds. That said, "Since it'll be troublesome if any negative effect remains in next season, I'll keep my eyes on her carefully until just before the Worlds," explained Coach Hamada that she'll keep her head cool for observing her condition, while respecting Miyahara's willingness.

Just wondering, can she keep her program or at least her free skate as it works really well and only do new short program for the Olympics season? With that, she might have more time to focus more on her recovery during the off season without having to worry about working on new program. Wjat is the minimum requirement result she needs to get to help secure Olympic spot (three preferably)?

Get well soon Satton. It's so heartbreaking to see a talented dedicated young skater be held bacl from her full potential like this. But she is a strong lady, i believe and i Hope she will get through this stronger than ever

She can keep both programs if she wants. It would be nice if she kept her FS. The sum of the first two skaters' placements must be 13 in order to keep 3 spots for the Olympics.

Well, now we know how bad her injury is because she withdrew from Worlds!!! I said earlier it would not happen unless the pain was intolerable or her practices were bad.... this confirms the worst :(

Obviously this is sad for her, but I am glad she has withdrawn. She needs to recover properly and focus on her health. Best of luck for a full recovery... lots of rest, Satoko!!

I feel sorry for Satoko... :( When we first heard her injury and how cautiouslly coach Hamada was talking about it to the media since, I am actually relieved to hear about her withdrawal. She and her team have made the right decision I think. This type of injury could be a career-threatening one. Rest fully and heal fully, please, Sa-tton.

Anyway, her team and top-notch medical team sure knows what's the best for her. Let's stay positive and supportive to Satoko for now, shall we. :ghug::ghug:

As for the suggestion of her keeping The Planet free program, I agree wih AnCho and ioanna. :)

So sad for Satton but this is the best choice for her.
However, since I'm new at this, does this mean now Satoko has no chance at all for competing in Olympics or will she have a way to salvage it next season (if she's recovered, hopefully so)?

No, she can compete at the Olympics, depending on her results next season. At the World Championships this season, the country gets the certain amount of spots for the Olympics, not the skater.

I wasn't going to buy my tickets to the ladies event until I was on site. I have a lot less reason for it now. I am so so soooo bummed. But I hope she recovers 100% to focus on having a good season next year. I'm just fast forward to their nationals next year. JSF will have a pickle on their hands for who to choose. I think she should be okay as long as she is healthy but who else would join her, especially if they only end up with two spots?

^^^BTW Danibellerika, just saw on the helsinki2017 site that men's and ladies are sold out...So sorry to hear we won't be seeing Satoko at Worlds, but it would be very shortsighted to expect her to skate, even if she thought she could do it while experiencing pain.

My biggest hope for her is that she get rest, rehabilitation, and physical therapy as needed. After that, I hope her team would consider her doing some plyometrics to help her with jump height and explosiveness. Now is not the time to do plyometrics, but maybe eventually it could help her.

Peace to her. I'm sure she is hugely disappointed, even if she is saying all the right things and being the loyal team player that we know she is.

I knew the free was sold out but there are still short program available since it's mid-week. I was planning to use that Friday to do some sight-seeing.
