Satoko Miyahara

I am sad for Satoko I wanted so much that it wins and this fall happened it was so shocking, the good thing is that it is here and not at the Olympics. Her choreography was beautiful she deserved more PCS. Heals well and comes back tinyqueen :hap10:

"Satoko cried at the press conference, saying she didn't have confidence before the competition, and today went wrong because of mental weakness."

:(

noooooooooooooooooooooo :cry::sad46:
dont cry Satton!! you overcame a serious injury and managed to come back strong, there is a lesson in everything and this experience isnt an exception, i have no doubt she will come back stronger :clapper::cheer:

Satoko was incredibly strong, don't cry!
I do worry that going to 4CC was not the right thing for her when her foot is not 100%. This may impact her performance at the Olympics because there's not enough time to heal and train. She'll have to do one or the other.
:(

Oh no do not cry as many have said she comes back from injury it's hard to get back to her best level after that but she did it, for me she's still number 1 she's an artist, I think that it was not a good day for her, she will do better at the Olympics, I believe it.:hap10:

"The cause for all of this was my own weakness".

The article also says something about her "sense of skating" not having returned to the fullest after 11 months away. Her comments are worrying and the foot inflammation couldn't have come at a worse time but she clearly feels more pressure than expected. I hope her team will be careful and not let her overtrain after this.

I can't pretend to know what is best for her but I question even being here at 4CC when the team event would have been pretty good to get her feet wet competition wise.

I hope not, maybe something got misinterpreted. I hope Satoko knows that she's shown time and time again that she's a wonderful competitor who has been sidelined by many injuries outside her control. For many years, no fellow Japanese lady had ever beaten her in competition. She's still recovering from injury and I hope she's not going to overtrain to compensate for these results.

The Asahi article mentioned that Hamada made a comment like "nasakenai" about her performance, which can be interpreted as anything between "regrettable" to "shameful" and yes "pathetic". Maybe a Japanese speaker can read the article I posted a page back and clarify. But context is not provided and there's no full quote.

I doubt anyone from her team made her think of herself as mentally weak... but she may have heard or read comments from people that made her draw that conclusion today. I'm actually way more surprised and concerned about the kind of comments she made than the program itself. Then again, people have so little consideration for these athletes that it's enough for Satoko to look up her own videos on YouTube and read what people say about her. Even here the Japanese ladies thread was a mess last month with pages and pages of hate.

I think the fall on the 3S cost her about 4 points in TES and possibly 1 point in PCS. Without the fall her total score would have been around 212 which would have still been fine at this point.

I thought she did a good job on the 3Lo, it was as good as the one in the SP. This jump has definitely improved since Nationals.

3Lz<-3T in the SP, 3Lz-3T< in the FS... maybe she'll manage a good 3Lz-3T at the Olympics. A lot of this trouble would have been avoided with a 2 x 2A-3T layout...

She rushed into the 3S, a similar mistake to the one at NHK Trophy except this time she managed to complete 3 rotations... I wonder if the walley is making things harder. I really don't get this mistake but it's clearly a mix of being in a bad place mentally and foot pain. Practice used to be everything to her and now that it's somewhat restricted she doubts herself. And when she doubts herself... URs happen.

All in all maybe it's better that it happened here and she knows what not do do at the Olympics. Hoping for programs she can be satisfied with next month.

Firstly, congratulations Satton for the bronze medal. :yahoo:

A pity Satton did not perform fully to her potential but it's sadder that there seems to be a lot of salty antis who just couldn't give her break. I sometimes wonder, how can someone hate a complete stranger whom they only see during competitions on TV. How do they feel when they just bash and bash others like that? Why? Because their biases did not perform as they hoped? Or the target(s)
threaten their biases? :sad21:

Satoko had one fall with quite a decent overall performance, not her best but still decebt to the very least, but you would think she totally messed up the whole universe :palmf:. Skaters are human too who made mistakes now and then, even the most perfect talented skater too. She's not the only skater ever making mistakes in competitions, others have done that. She deserves her Olympic ticket. A less than perfect competition shouldn't be the only measure or justifications to discredit the fact That she earned that spot fair and square. Sorry of this is harsh, but it truly saddens me.

I personally feel going to 4cc could be beneficial for her, regardless of the results. She can have more exposure to international competition atmosphere that can potentially train her nerve. And honestly, the outcome and her interview about her state of mind kinda make me glad she did the competition now. It's better to make mistakes at 4cc, which give more times to tackle as much as she could than going for first comp in 2018 at the team event. Reading from her latest interview after FS (i Think i saw the link in Iguana twitter :) ), she sounded like she's burning with desire to overcome her weakness and I like this motivation. As devastating as it is, A temporary defeat can be a good jolt and effective fuel for a bette performance and hopefully she can snap out of this flux and address the mistakes she made here for a better performance at Olympic. However, Most importantly, she needs to also take care of herself. She still has a long way ahead of her so hopefully she can find the perfect balance that will give her both peace of mind and stronget performance

If anyone can bounce back and meet his/her goal that she mentioned during interview, its her. Don't listen to the naysayers Satton. Leave all the mistakes behind at 4CC (plus, it wasnt that shabby. She was bronze medalist here). Come back stronger and shut the negative opinions one and for all. She has gone through devastating injuries, forced off the ice for almost 11 months, coming back with 4th national title, and proving that she is the choice olympian. Some might never accept your talents or your achievements but a lot others still believe in you. Ganbatte Satton:clap:
I apologize if any part of this post is rude or offensive, no intention whatsoever to paint anyone or party in bad light. Just my personal opinion here :)

The Asahi article mentioned that Hamada made a comment like "nasakenai" about her performance, which can be interpreted as anything between "regrettable" to "shameful" and yes "pathetic".

Last summer, Hamada also said to Miyahara "Let's work to go to the Olympics in five years."

Either she hates her pupil or, more likely, knows that reverse psychology works on her.

Great post AnCho! I too have seen many comments that say Satoko was a bad choice for the Olympics and that skater x or y would have done better. What everyone seems to be ignoring is that all the pressure to qualify for the Olympics was off at 4CC. It's over. The real battle was Nationals and she won so it wasn't a "choice", it was direct qualification. It's sad that she can't have one bad competition without people (on the internet and - considering her reaction - in real life too) rushing to say she's done, she's over, she won't do anything at the Olympics and so on.

I hope she manages to detach herself from all of this nonsense and simply enjoy her experience. At the press conference she said "I realized once again that the competition is really a battle between myself and I".

As I was updating the first page of this thread with the 4CC results and had a look over Satoko's results from last season, up until the 2016 GPF (where she got her personal best scores), she didn't even cross 200 points at her GP events. She got 192 at Skate Canada due to many UR calls and an invalid StSq, she got 198 at NHK Trophy with a hard fall in the SP and no 3-3, and other URs in the FS. She qualified last for the GPF and went from 198 at NHK Trophy to 218 at the GPF in only 2 weeks. Not to mention at that time her hip had already started to hurt. I think it's when people don't expect anything from her is when she delivers and hopefully the Olympics will be the same. There's about one more month left until the ladies' SP and I'm looking forward to seeing her "revenge". :agree2:
