Schpilband's Camp

I'm far from an expert on ice dancing, but I've been watching the competitions all season and could not help but wonder if Virtue and Moir get favoritism from Schpilband and Zueva. I love V/M, B/A, and D/W, but lately B/A's and D/W's programs do not look as difficult or as innovative as V/M, especially with the lifts. Although, it could be that V/M can do more with Zueva's choreography.

If B/A & D/W are getting a raw deal on the choreography, they would be better served by other coaches or choreographers. Once again, I am no expert and I may not be catching what other may be able to catch. Any opinions?

Each team needs a different choreographer, althought having one on the training team is good just to do the basics.

I understood that V&M are going elsewhere to get ideas. That's probably the biggest difference.
And Zueva isn't doing better with them than what she's doing with the others.
I bet V&M have a better instinct about what to do with it.

But all these teams should go and work with any other choreographer ! But not Morozov please

V&M didn't go elsewhere to get ideas -- B&A did. They worked with a hip-hop instructor in LA to get a sense of different ways of moving their bodies and interpreting music.

V&M worked with acrobats from the Cirque de Soleil to improve their lifting techniques. Prior to this season, lifts were their weakest point (probably because they are quite similar in size and build). The acrobats were able to teach them new leveraging techniques etc., which allowed them to make their lifts easier as well as more dramatic.

As for choreography, well, Marina has been quoted as saying that V&M remind her of G&G, and as we all know, Marina's best work was done for G&G. If V&M remind her of them, it may be that she gets more inspired when she works with them than when she works with other teams. There's also the fact that of all 3 teams, V&M's style of movement most resembles the classical balletic style of G&G, so as MarieM says, it may be that they can intrepret what she's giving them better than the others can.

It seemed to me that V&M's sp did not suit them as well as their lp, which fit them like a glove.
