Senior Men's Free

HUGE SCORE for Patrick! I'd REALLY HATE to be Jeff Buttle right now; the pressure must be enormous, similar to Evan and Johnny last year at Nationals.

Buttle... Not as electric as chan, but I think he's done enough (considering the 7 points lead) He fell on the 2nd axel, stepped out of a combo, and double the last lutz

Very happy for Patrick. I look forward to seeing him skate for years. I like the way he skates! Thanks a lot for the description. :)

18 Jeffrey Buttle NO

he put himself in a precarious position

3a3t, stepout
3lz, beautiful
spin, good
fall on 3a, that took care of 7 points lead
3f-2t-2l, came back, good
3s, so easy looking
inna bouer to 3l
straight step sequence
audience clapping and roaring, tension building up
2a beautiful
doubled the planned 3lz, ouch.

it is very close.

CONGRATS PATRICK! First of hopefully many to come!

ETA: Hey that's two upsets at Canadian Seniors. What's next, Mira over Joannie? Weaver and Poje somehow pulling up twenty points to take the lead?

Whoa that was a tough fight! I would have been okay either way it had gone, but am thrilled that Chan won it with the performance of the night (the performance of the championships so far, IMO, with Buttle's SP close). Buttle had the more difficult program, but a number of errors, while Chan was whisper clean. It was a disappointing final flight until it came to Chan and Buttle, but they made up for it. Now for the future — I want to see Chan perform like that at worlds, and to see Buttle perform his program up to snuff — I think the choreography and expression of it are nothing short of brilliant, but I have never seen him perform it without some pretty big errors, and that's what I want to see now. I have to say though, even with the fall on the second 3 axel here in the long, Buttle's axel is looking better than I've seen it in a long, long while, so that's encouraging.

Well, I don't think there's any need to worry about dance, unless V/M for some reason can't finish their FD. However, with the tiny margin between Rochette and Leung I'm worried. I think it would be a disaster to give Leung the title, for a number of reasons. But Rochette can be unpredictable. However, in the LP, an error like Rochette made on the 3/3 won't be as costly, so.....

Congratulations, Patrick, on winning the Canadian title for the first time!

I'm sorry Jeff didn't skate well enough to defend his title, but at least he's going back to Worlds and I hope he can skate better there!

I'm also happy Shawn was able to climb back up to win the bronze medal. Too bad Canada can't send three guys to Worlds this year, but I'm glad to see him back on the podium just the same!

Now I've got chillbumps, too! This is wonderful, fabulous, and all other superlatives. I am so happy for Patrick! I lost my first attempt at this post, going back to see what Jeff did lol. (Got home a short time ago, been jumping around to earlier on the thread, and suddenly was on page 4, and it said Patrick won! I really did get chillbumps, and I do not get them often.) The first time I got to see Patrick skate, he knocked my socks off. This is so wunderbar! He has a clean, classic style that rings my chimes; it is such a pleasure to see a straightforward, no-nonsense exhibition of classic skating. I wish I could have seen this one! I am now looking forward *utterly* to 4 Continents, so that I can watch Patrick skate again. Okay, that's enough burbling. lol This is great!

I'm so happy for Patrick!

This was what I thought of him when I first saw his performance at Liberty summer competition:

"Wow, this Patrick Chan is amazing! I've never seen him skate before. I love his program, by turns lyrical and dramatic, with a modern twist. I really enjoyed all his footwork sequences and transition steps. That first circular footwork with the onset of the dramatic music was really cool. But really, I liked all the footwork seq's and transitions, and in general his style and musicality. For a 16-year-old, he has amazing polish and presentation. Almost every position he struck was lovely."

I thought I saw something really special. And he's even better now than last summer! I'm so happy for him that he's really realizing his potential this year. Go Patrick!

Wow, congrats to Patrick for the performance of the evening and for winning the gold medal! I can't wait to see his program. He's one of my new favorites and to see him step up to the plate and deliver an inspiring performance today is so awesome. Congrats to Jeff too (I think he'll come back strong at Worlds) for not giving up without a fight. I think they're a fabulous one-two punch for Worlds in March!!

It was so exciting to have watched Patrick's LP. He is the canada's medal hope at 2010 Olympics. He has the mental toughness to get there. Jeff and Sandhu are all great skaters but they just don't have that mental toughness. Watching Patrick is like watching Michelle, so secure and so smooth. On the other hand, watching Buttle is like watching Sasha.
