Evora/Ladwig: "Black Magic Woman"

They are wearing red. Odd choice. Split 2 twist. Throw 3 Lutz with step out. 3S in which she underrotated. Hop by her into nice lift. Interesting SBS spin with nice unison. Nice pair sit to Biellman, reverse to camel. Spirals to the guitar solo section of the music. Fast BODS with nice low position to catch foot. Good performance for them, and they seem quite pleased with themselves.

Total: 53.24

Into 6th place. Good for them!

A View of the SP Pairs

With two teams having a lock on the placements for Worlds, we take a particular interest in who will be the bronze medalist?

R&B skated very well and clean and earmed a 62.73. N&L also skated very well and clean and earned a 62.29. However, the fans in attendance were not happy about the placements and let the judges know it. Naomi and Themi skated to Jealousy and it never looked so good. It was so right for them.

While seasoned skaters like Vise and Trent and Evora/Ludwig did well, many of the neoSenior skaters are doing a fine job. Moyle and Seitz, Namiatka/Coughlin,
and in particular, Castile/Olkowski. The US will have a very strong Pairs contingent by 2009 Nationals for the big one to follow.

Not up to expectations were Vlassov/Meekins. I think it was a bit of nerves.
However, it aint over till its over and the LPs are to come.

Junior Dance had a number of excellent couples but I don't have my notes available. There is, however, rivalry in the Michigan camp with its two top teams for Junior Pairs: Samuelson and Bates and Hubbel and Hubbel. Both teams are very good.

There is an article in the NYT today about NNN& L and I&B. This is the reason figure skating is suffering in attendance (except in a city in the middle of nowhere that is near Canada) and getting poor television ratings.. The pedestrian fan cannot stand it when the best team doesn't win. They hate how the judges hold people up even in the new scoring system. It IS the judges who are hurting skating! It was the Salt Lake Judging Scandle that drove all the fans away that the Tonya and Nancy incident had attracted who really didn't know a flip from a lutz. The people who skate the best on the night of the competition should win.

No insult meant. Although it is hard to get to. When we were considering coming we would have to fly to Dallas change planes fly to Phoenix change planes and still a long flight weather permitting. Congratulations on having a city that will turn out for skating. I think the term "Skate City USA" just might stick.

I know. I separated that thought with -------- just to show that there are close calls this year. Only B&8 seem to be way above the challenging crowd.

Had the NYT reporter looked at the protocol, they would have seen the differing levels that lead to the I&B placement. In the end, the death spiral was the difference since I&B got Level 4, while N&L got a Level 2. The difference was one full point.
