Shen & Zhao's wedding plan

Not sure if it is the right place to post this, but I read something really interesting and can't help sharing it.

S/Z might have a wedding on the ice next year! It was kind of inspired by their coach's suggestion. Their coach Bin Yao asked them to let him know beforehand to give him enough time to practice piano and skating. Bin Yao hasn't been on the ice for a long time because of his back problem. Xue always wanted to skate with Hongbo while Bin Yao playing the piano, and Yao wanted to let her wishes come true.

Another interesting thing is that Xue and Hongbo are "fighting" to have Bin Yao on her/his side. There was a hot debate on if Bin Yao should be the guest from the bride' s side or from the bridegroom's side. Hongbo argued that he has been with Coach Yao for 18 years while Xue insisted that she should have the honor as Bin Yao is her "godfather" (GAN DIE, kinda chinese equavalent to godfather).

Xue regreted that she didn't get it on the ice when Hongbo proposed. She "blamed" Hongbo not having a ring in hand to indicate the proposal. She was wondering why he was on his knee and assume that he wanted to show her his appreciation at the end of their career and so she knelt for him too. She also joked that she suffered tremendous losses as Hongbo was on his knee while she was on both knees:laugh:
Hongbo also self-mocked in another interview that for 15 years they had perfect mutual understanding but they didn't have it the moment when it counted the most:).

Xue also said that for the whole week they received congratulations everywhere they went and they just can't help smiling all the time, like in a honey pot (an Chinese expression for overwhelming happiness)

It's just so sweet:love:

Honglig, thanks for posting. As you can see many of us love them and any tidbit about their upcoming marriage is very much welcome news.

A couple of photo shots they did recently for 'Sports Illustrated'. Warning: viewer discretion is advised for the first few photos. Just kidding.

Zhao is not as muscular as Brian JOUBERT, but he's in terrific shape considering his age. This leads to my favourite question. Although I have tremedous respect for older male pair skaters such as Mariusz SIUDEK and Alexei TIKHONOV, my biggest complaint is that they don't seem to care about proper weight control. It just makes their skating so laboured, sloppy, slow and painful to watch. Hao Zhang has the same problem, but he seems to have lost a big weight which makes him look much better these days.

On the other hand, 'older' male ice dancers are doing a much better job. Patrice LAUZON is a good example. Why the difference?

Thanks for the news and updates and also for the great photos. S/Z just look fabulous.

A wedding on ice would be beautiful. Think they would do it on TV so we could all share in their joyful day.

I would love to see a wedding on Ice. That is a plan, now getting a rink on a beach in Fiji might be tough....

Thanks for the pictures! Some of them are great and one in particular is just a HOOT!
Was this shot taken in the 80s?

Members only jacket pictured in my mind out of frame.

I think this kind of thing that we see so often is proof a lot(not all) of the skaters love to feel sexy. Maybe FS will have a PG-13 rating on it along with gymnastics and Tennis someday?;)

Maxim Trankov--old?! Didn't he just win Junior worlds two or three years ago?

?;)

No. All of those photos were taken right before 2007 world championships. That's why I commented that Zhao is really in great shape considering his age.

;) meaning it looks like... not funny I guess.

LOL. BTW, 'Sports Illustrated'(Chinese version) has inched towards a porn magzine. I went to their website, and they just released this special edition of Chinese athlets in swimming trunks... Go figure...
