4th in the short will take the pressure off him and calm the media down a bit. --He doesn't need that pressure so early in the season. Now, he can concentrate on doing the FS magnificently, like we saw at JO. That will put him on the podium for sure.

Thought I'd post before I head out to the rink. Too bad about the quad; he was landing them in OPs but during the 6min warm up he had trouble sticking jumps. Overall I thought he could still do better with the SP, still lots of room for more points. He is definitely a podium hopeful and his FS is great. I can't wait to see it tonight! Lots of Japanese fans in the crowd cheering for him.

Good luck in the FS.
I still think it's risky to do the Quod and 3A on its own first and then do Quad combo and 3A combo later. Yes, you do get the bonus for jumps in 2nd half. But it's sooooo risky, no room to wiggle and add the combo later on if the landing is shaky.

Yes Shoma made it! For me he was the best at the event but nvm that was SA and I feel happy for the three guys on the podium. Congratulations :cheer:

Congrats Shoma! What a nice podium with Max and Jason.
I hope to see a clean SP one day, hopefully at TEB.

Oh Shoma! You are becoming one of the skaters that really affects me emotionally along with your "mom" Mao and idol Daisuke T.

So amazing to watch.

I'd prefer it if it's his "mom" Mao and "dad" Dai...

Shoma was amazing! I hope he'll finally nail his SP in his next event. But his SP was definitely better than when he first skated it in competition.

Yes, suuuper well done! This is the perfect way to start the season I think...better than gold in my opinion. Less pressure, more to challenge.

It was so great being in the crowd to see him skate like that tonight! As much as I am happy for Max and like his programs, I thought he was very slow and very cautious (maybe saving energy for his quad in the second half?) and did not move about the rink as much. Shoma, on the other hand, was full of speed and attack right towards the end! I know he certainly won many fans in the stand tonight. (Ladies around me kept saying "he is soooo cute!") And of course the crowd was on its feet even before the finish. The landings of those jumps can be better but awesome first GP! Waiting to see 2 Japanese men in GPF.

I feel happy for you too ;)

Well done, Shoma :cheer2: Very impressive! First debut as a senior and already killing it in the TEC department (that quad+double toe at the second half had me looking for my inhaler). And his FP really tugged my heartstrings, I was getting emotional just watching it. It's nostalgic in a way, kind of reminded me of the feels I experienced while watching Machida's Beethoven program at Skate America. Inspirational!

Thanks for the live experiences!

His quad combo in the 2nd half and the cantilever gave me chills!

I do still hope he gets some serious jump coaching soon. He has come a long way, but there are still improvements to be made.

My only other wish is that people wouldn't keep judging him and his behaviour by the standards of extroverts and Western society.

Oh man, in the discussion thread where people are taking one picture of him on the podium with his normal resting face on and they're saying he looks bitter and unhappy. Please! imo it has less to do with judging him by western extrovert standards or whatever and more to do with nitpicking and trying to find negative things to say about him and it's really sad and pathetic that they have to resort to that. :scowl: But I guess it's just that hard to find things to dislike about him!
