Shoma's FS layout at national camp: 4T, 4T+2T, 3A/ 3S, 3Lo, 3A+3T, 3Lz, 2A+1Lo+3F

(Interview/12:38~, FS/13:17~)

That layout is pretty difficult and I'm concerned about the placing of that 3Lz so late in the program. Considering his lutz issues it would be safer if he changed that to a flip or at least switch the lutz with the salchow or the loop earlier. Especially since he's ending the program with a difficult 2A-1Lo-3F combination (which I'm still hoping will become a 3A-1Lo-3F sometime in the future).

I have watched the video and I am impressed with the improvement, to my eye, of his jumps. I also think he has improved in expression too. There is much to be impressed with here and I am looking forward to seeing what he can do.

However, am I being unreasonable or too panicky by being quite worried by how absolutely bone deep exhausted he looks? I mean, he can hardly get up from the fall it looks like and then at the end he is on his knees. Has the kid had a rest yet from last season? Is he doing too much?

I wouldn't worry yet - he was in the middle of a training session and was probably already tired when he started the run-through of his FS. I am actually impressed because aside from that 3Lz he managed to land every single jump even when he was visibly tired.

It is, however, a very demanding layout (3A-3T way in the second half of the program when just a year ago I remember posting on this same thread about him finally landing that 3A) and he will have to get adjusted to it.

Thank you. You are very calming.

I was incredibly impressed by the jump after the fall too. You might expect that one to fall apart or be popped, but no.

And a 2A-1Lo-3F no less! That's a very difficult combination because in order to execute a fine 3F skaters need speed going into it so that when the toe pick hits the ice it can elevate them enough to complete 3 rotations. In this combination he almost has no speed at all because that half loop kind of stops the momentum. A very bold decision to make this combination the last jumping pass in the program because his stamina would have to be very good.

He said that this season he wanted to focus on developing the artistic side of his skating (and his expression definitely needs improvement) but he's not stagnating with the technical package at all. The only obvious error is the flutz and I was hoping he was going to improve it but it looked pretty awful in the video, I have to be honest here. But then this is Shoma Uno, the same skater who introduced a quad and a triple axel when everyone thought it would be next to impossible so I'm sure he'll find a way to make it work.

I know he says he's trying to improve the artistic side, but right now it's the jumps that are improving the most. Still, to be able to do those difficult jumps one after another shows that he has hope for getting on the Senior podiums and possibly even into the GPF.

He still has enough time before the start of the season to get the artistic side up to scratch. I'm really hopeful for Shoma this year.

This is a very bold thing to say especially since there's a long way ahead, but I do see him in the GPF.

Yes, one cannot tell how things will be in the future. I just think that right now Shoma has tremendous momentum and if he can ride the momentum well and not give in to pressure, he can aim very high in his first Senior Season.

Gambare Shoma!

Sheeesh that program is fully loaded! Shoma did a great job executing the technical elements even though he looked worn out
at the end. He is an incredibly talented young man. I am looking forward to his progress!

I think he will be in the Final too.

His layout of FP.
4T 4T+2T 3A 3S 3Lo 3A+3T 3Lz 2A+1Lo+3F

Considering his potential, he can make it within this season..
Anyone said he may make 2A+1Lo+3F evolve into 3A+1Lo+3F in the future.. Is it possible? 3A+1Lo+3F has a huge impact if he gets it..

Is it possible to perform this combination? Yes, Plushenko did it. Is it possible for Shoma to do it? I think it is once he gets both his solo 3A and his 2A-1Lo-3F combination good and consistent.

His Axel is improving so I hope he upgrades to 3A+1Lo+3F eventually. I love the +1Lo+3F combination.
