This FP performance made me respect Shoma as an athlete even more! I really applaud him for trying for a quad again, even though it didn't work. I think he knows his position really well, that his season, being his first senior season, the important thing is to push forward and challenge and make a name for himself. He did that all throughout this season. Love this attitude! He is probably going to 4CC next? We'll find out soon enough.

I love his attitude too! That decision to attempt a second quad in place of the final combination is brave and full of courage. Like he said, he wants to attack! I admire this young man for that.

Well I thought it was a silly decision. He could afford to do that at Nationals but he must not repeat that internationally. He lost 10 points by not doing his planned 2A-1Lo-3F which is a unique combination and I woud like that to turn into 3A-1Lo-3F one day instead of seeing failed quad attempts at the end of the program.

they dont look alike at all :eeking:
Except for the nose. :3 It's good to see him relaxing with family. He needs some rest before going back to train for 4CC. :) Does anyone know if his younger brother is skating? Or doing any competitive sport?

He used to play ice hockey. I don't know whether he still plays or not, but at least I heard he's playing field hockey now.
And Shoma also used to play ice hockey when he was little.

I was just co ing to link that! So cute and funny and nice to see Shoma relaxed enough to make jokes on the podium now! :luv17:

I posted this on Japanese Skaters thread, but re-post here as it is about Shoma's 4T, with my rough translation.

This is the full version with ladies.

Translations of the part from 23:00 :

Shoma: (Failed 4T) I jumped 2T at the last.
Takahito: Hahaha
Shoma: I failed the first one and thought "Damn it!!" and tried at the last and failed again (Laughs)

Ryuju advised to Shoma: I thought you should have replaced 3Lz with 4T?
Shoma: I thought that. But, I was afraid as what I should do if I fail 4T, then fail 3Lz as well.
Ryuju: I mean, It could be OK if you jump 4T, then axcel and flip at the last. Why are you so particular about including Lutz?
Shoma: But the point is higher. Then, I'll do 4T+1Lo+3F (Laughter) Totally impossible though, haha.
Ryuju: Have you succeeded it before?
Shoma: Yes, I have.
Ryuju: I knew you have

4T+1Lo+3F :hap57:
How crazy.

Latest video on Shoma; following him when he went on ice for the first time in 2016 on Jan 2nd. It says that different from past years, his "first skate" of the year is on the 2nd rather than on the 1st because he's realized that resting itself is an important lesson as well. Rather than asking for money (new year tradition?), he is asking for a mentality that allows him no mistakes in competition. They asked him to write down his goal for 2016, he said he wants to successfully jump 2 types of quads in competition (practicing both 4s and 4lo).

awesome skating skills and nice soft knees aside, I found another thing I like about Shoma...

it's how his cheeks get so rosy every time he completes his program!
It's so cute I can't stand it :o:

Interview with Shoma.
Points: He HATES vegetables and never used to eat them, but to be a top athelete, he's trying. He's trying to think of vegetables as food.
He looks up to Yuzu but wants to beat him. He doesn't think he is able to yet, but he's aiming for it.

precious! I hope he will stay healthy and that he and his team has a smart but sure plan for his progress in the future!
thanks for sharing :)
