I've just started classes at my local figure skate club, was learning in city programs before. I'm almost done with Canskate and am planning on getting new skates soon and wanted to get recommendations. I'm 17, 5'3" 115lbs with normal arches. I think I have Egyptian feet although my big toes is the same size as the second one. I've got my eyes on skates on a similar level to Freestyles, but I'm not completely sure if they would be the best fit for my level.

Any fitter at a good skate shop will be able to recommend brands and models when you're entire foot is being measured. Where in Canada are you located? Someone here will be able to point you in the direction of a the best nearby shop. I'm in the Vancouver area, so if you're in BC, I'd send you to Cyclone Taylor Figure Skating where I've shopped for a long time myself. But are you in another province/city?

It sounds as if Risports (the brand I wear) would fit you, but so would several other brands. Are you looking for separate boots and blades, or a set with the blade already attached?

Hi and welcome. You have more of an African type foot it sounds with the even first two toes, but still a slimmer foot. You should look into Riedell, Risport Royal series, and Edea.
Riedell Stride 223, Risport Royal Pro, Edea Overture or Chorus.

You'll need blades to go with them. A traditional intermediate blade like MK Pro or John Wilson Coronation Ace would work fine (no revs or lites).

As far as a professional fitter in your area look into setting up an appointment with Figure Skating Boutique in Markham, ON. They have all the boots and blades (brands) I've suggested.
Good luck! :)

Was looking at fitters near me. Do you know anything about Esta? Since that place is closer to me.

They don't carry all the brands I suggested to you and I haven't really heard much about them. The place I suggested does have everything I suggested to you and they're a 25 minute at tops drive from Richmond Hill. The other option I would suggest would be Ice & Nice in Burlington ON which is about an hour from you, they have brands and also one of the best sharpener techs in Canada (has done sharpening for many National and International skaters).

During the four years I lived in Toronto, I lived downtown on the edge of the U of T campus. I skated at both the Cricket Club and the University Club, and all the skaters were sent by their coaches to the Ice Skating Boutique in Markham. You're so much closer to that shop than we were! Even if you have to take the bus, you're a lot closer than most skaters live to the skate shops they rely on, some of whom travel for hours each way. I had to travel there by subway and bus and thought nothing of it.

Sorry, I've never heard of Esta. It must be a newer or smaller shop. I agree with @Ic3Rabbit, your best bet by far is the Ice Skating Boutique, a long-established and widely-trusted shop with everything you need and expert staff to guide you.

Got fitted a a week ago for overtures! They fit really well, very snug. Coronation ace blades are being mounted for pick up soon :)
How long until I should be replacing laces? not sure if I should buy some laces now, or wait until I need them.

Always have a spare pair of laces just in case, you never know when a lace will break or whatnot!

Always have a spare pair of laces (or two) in your skate bag. They wear through and break, being tugged over and over at exactly the same places each time.

(Just noticed Ic3Rabbit said the same thing, in virtually the same words. So it's unanimous -- buy an extra pair of laces right from the start ;).)
