Skaters Lounge board in Japan

Miki Ando credited this board as well as her coaches for the support that enabled her to win at Worlds.

In view of comments in several current threads about skaters reading these boards, is anyone familiar with Skaters Lounge? As I understand it, it's not a Miki Ando fan board but a more general forum.

I'm curious as to if and how it deals with bashing or criticism that skaters might find painful.

It's really interesting that Miki would have found support on a skating board at a time when there was a big loss of interest in her. (I read that Uncle Dick said of her, even after her SA win, that she couldn't be considered a contender at Worlds!)

Surely Japanese fans are not so polite that this issue doesn't arise!

I really don't get this shortsighted perspective about athletes.... The case of Miki is so typical... They load up a skater with incredibly high expectations in their first years of senior competition, which is so unfair because sometimes it takes a lot of experience to transform talent/potential into real wins. But then, once this over-hyped skater falters, they get mad at her (or him) for not fulfilling their own overhyped expectations.

I think Miki and Mao have both suffered a bit from this. This year, everyone was saying Mao would be unbeatable. Mao is amazing but she needs a bit of time to get to perfect consistency. There's no way I would look at her silver medal or her 5th place in the Sp at this Worlds as a failure. She's still young. It's her first year as a senior. She maybe the most technically able skater at this time, but it's ok if she's not perfect. Of course, the same goes for Miki... She is a tougher case cause her skating really took a dive these last couple of years, but that didn't mean that she was totally hopeless. I mean, what was the point of Dick and others talking about if she is a contender or not. The best thing would have been to just wait until Worlds to see how she does. No need to judge ahead of time that a medal would have been impossible for her.

By the way, the message board yaph mentioned above is called 2ch.(2ch.net) and there is no administrator or webmaster that control the content of the messages so you can pretty much post anything you want, good or bad anonymously. So most of the messeges are.. very disturbing. I hope the skaters aren't reading any of them. But not all the messages are bad. Some are very kind but some are just name calling. There was a lot of talk about Mirai Nagasu after winning the US jr on 2ch message board whether Mirai should skate for the US or Japan.

It doesn't matter what my ethnic group is.
It is often said that the Japanese are willing to abuse anyone (mainly Korean, Chinese) who objects to their opinions as a foreign resident in Japan. Now, I'm sure it's true.
