Skaters on Team Japan

Thanks mikaboo. I hope Yuna Aoki and Wakaba can improve and come back stronger at Nationals. And all the best to Marin, Yuna S and Mai at the finals.

Yay both Rika and Ryuju did well in their SP's at Finlandia Trophy! (Lucky me who was there to see them compete. ) Ryuju scored 67.55 and is in fourth place, Rika got 65.75 points and is in first place.

Ryuju actually cried a bit after his program, he probably wasn't expecting himself to do so well. Best of luck for tomorrow's free skate competitions to both! :cheer2:

So refreshing to see Ryuju happy after his skate. Keep up the good work in the FS! Good luck to both Ryuju and Rika in the FS :cheer:

looking at the protocols (can find them at tumblr post :) ) koshiro attempted 3A and got << :hopelessness: i hope he wont attempt it this week and skate clean as he did at Bratislava

I'm surprised that he didn't go for the 3A yesterday. He had nothing to lose but instead we got another clean FS from him so all is good :)
I found a video of his attempt but the video is set on private so click on the link in the tweet to see it (at 2:30).
And after their skates, Koshiro and Sena were selling flowers.

Nobuaki Tanaka (photographer) has uploaded more photos on his instagram from JGP Croatia.
Wakaba
Daichi

And photos from Kumiko Maeda (ice dancer) on her twitter when they were departing Japan.

Yuna A. just won the Junior ladies' at Kanto Regional. (SP: 53.26/ 3Lz-1L/3F/2A; FS: 105.49/3Lz-3L/3S/2A/2A-3T(2FT)-1T/3Lz/3Lo/3F-2T (tano)). I wonder if Wakaba will attend Eastern Section (to be held from Oct 29~ Nov.), though it seems she can get a bye to Eastern Section as she was one of the top 3 from last year?

Thank you mikaboo! I wanted to see Koshiro's attempted 3A. It was close. :cheer:

Ryuju did well :agree: But I expect more from him  If he does not include quad in SP, I think he needs to improve his SP configuration, 3S to 3F, maybe. I love the steps in the last part. I want more PCS for him

Yeah, I wondered why he opted not to go for the 4T
I read reports of people who go to regional competitions a lot and it seems like both Ryuju and Keiji have been landing nice looking 4T and 4S during the warm-ups but they always struggle with them during the competitions. I hope they can "suddenly" start landing them like Shoma did with his 3A last season although that would just mean more heartbreaks at Nationals.

Thank you for the many updates.

What cuties :o: I would have bought many if I had been there.

Protocols from Kanto Regionals came out. Some of the federations have been acting very fast recently

She's getting "!" on the flip so maybe she's working on the lutz take-off edge. I hope she can stabilize the 3T as a second jump also.
I hope she comes back strong. She's too good to be buried in the depth of the junior ladies.

I read that they were saying "how about some flowers for Keiji-kun?" so Keiji must have gotten many flowers because really, who can resist?

Are all these regionals competition to narrow down the skaters for Jr Nationals?

Yes, there are 6 regional competitions and the top few finishers from each competition (the number of qualifiers depends on which regional competition it is) move up to compete at sectionals (Eastern/Western Japan) and the top few finishers from there (again, the number depends on which competition they're competing at) qualify to compete at Jr. Nationals.

But I'm not knowledgeable about regional/sectional competitions so somebody correct me if I got it wrong please.

Oh, and congratulations to Ryuju for a new PB I believe? Too bad about the fall on the 4T. Hope he gets it one day!

Thank you, mikaboo :yay:

After all, he needs to improve to get higher GOE and PCS. The part I'm concerned most is the flow after landing
I can't help but compare it with the beautiful flow of Yuzuru's landing, with his beautifully stretched free leg.
But, anyway if he gets more confident with his jumps, he will be able to think about that. I'm really expecting him since he was a novice. Go for it, Ryuju, just believe you are King Arthur himself

EDIT:

Another video with the score.

Look at his towel with many 逃げちゃダメだ (Nigecha dameda) - Don't turn your back/Don't refrain from challenging. I should think Ryuju is fighting at his own pace.

And, of course, Congratulations to Rika :cheer:
Your performance was with full of energy.

The TS at Kanto Regional is Okazaki Makoto(!) So there's no wonder about the results from the technical side, which is a good thing for younger skaters.
I also hope she can nail the 3T. I adore Yuna a bit more than the other current Japanese junior ladies.

He had that towel at Nebelhorn last year too

I think people were saying that it's from Evangelion. It did seem like he was telling himself that especially since he skated so badly there. I'd like to see Ryuju and/or Keiji make a breakthrough before they retire but it may be asking for too much...

Rika is so engaging! I loved how she skated at Finlandia and I can definitely see Akiko's influence on her even in her FS that Kenji sensei choreographed.

Thanks Mikaboo for the explantion of the regional competitions.

I wonder whether is this part of 2015-2016 season cm Mura's version?

Oh gosh… that costume looks hideous but I should wait until he competes in it. There is an article on the industrial fiber? news that it's designed by Yuma Koshino if anyone is curious…

No wonder! But I agree, it's a good thing to be judged strictly than leniently I think, especially at competitions that may take the skaters to Nationals.
I like Marin and YunaS too, but I need to see YunaA up there with them. IIRC, her home rink will be done with reconstruction by the end of the year so hopefully her training environment will improve and the poor girl can secure more sleep time!

They do look alike, especially when they're sitting next to each other! Same ancestors?
