Skaters on Team Japan

Mitsuki Sumoto tweeted on February 13 that he was diagnosed with urachal remnant.
He is scheduled for surgery to remove it today (March 03).
Wishing only the best for this talented skater.
Hoping his procedure and recovery goes well.

Terrible news: Sota is out of Junior Worlds after fracturing his right ankle in practice. :sad21:Always so sad to see so many talented youngs (like Nathan a few weeks earlier) getting injured like that.
Kazuki Tomono will take his place.

Wishing Sota and Mitsuki quick and full recovery

Interviews and others from Figure Skate TV. Thank you for the uploader.

Thank you so much SuzyQ for the link!
Since I don't watch Ice Dance very often this was my first time seeing Rikako Fukase/Aru Tateno's FD. I was so impressed! To my untrained eye they seem to have some really interesting and exciting spins and (lifts?). As a new fan of this team, I am anxiously looking forward to watching them grow.

Wishing for all the skaters representing Japan at Junior Worlds great performances and an enjoyable competition.

Shu, Daichi, Kazuki, Wakaba, Yuna, Marin, Rikako and Aru, Ganbatte! :cheer:

...and of course, I am also wishing the best for both Sota  and Mitsuki with their recoveries. Stay strong boys!

I don't watch much dance either, but was drawn to Rikako/Aru's performances during JGP. They've been winning JPN Junior nationals for 2 consecutive yrs. Now they're also training in Montreal, along side with the most top dancing teams in the field.

Good luck to all the JWC participants/team!

Thank you for the info. I'm going to search for their JGP and Jr national performances now.

Congratulations to the guys for the number of spots they secured for next seasons JGP and JWC. Considering what could have been lost, I feel that congratulations are in order.
Nice Job!

Also, since there is no JWC EX thread as of yet, I thought I'd post this here:

Looks like Kazuki has been invited to skate in the JWC exhibition. :gclap::dance:

He's so happy~

I have a bad feeling about the future of men's skating. Yuzuru is still not 100% where he should be and when he retires, there is only Shoma and Sota. I don't trust Shoma, Sota is still young and i doubt he will be successful until he is 18, 19.
I have a feeling the russian men are on the rising and ready for a new era. I have thought about this before worlds and now i'm pretty sure about it.
The japanese domination could end soon, for a while. This is scary :scard7:

Well, I totally trust Shoma. It was only his first senior season. He has great technical elements, incredible artistry for his age and lots of personality. At the GPF at the end of his program the crowd was much louder than his music. When someone can make people live his performance like that, it's something special. Yuzuru did this too in 2012.
I don't know what to say about Sota because I didn't watch him enough.

Anyway, happy they got 3 spots back.

Gongratulations for getting 3 spots for next Worlds! I'm especially happy since I'll be watching those competitions live in Helsinki next spring, and it'll be great to see three Japanese men skating there (and hopefully skating lights out and bringing home a medal or two ;) ).

I wouldn't be so scared, even though these Worlds didn't go quite as we would have liked (and certainly not as Yuzu and Shoma would have liked). I definitely trust Shoma to stay among the top guys in the coming seasons, and Sota to enter into the senior ranks with respectable results (given that he recovers fully from his ankle injury and gets good programs for next season). Also I wouldn't count Mura and Dice out yet (no retirement announcements from them yet, I assume? I just suddenly got worried that I might have missed the news). ALSO Keiji Tanaka has improved a lot this season - 4th at nationals, 5th at NHK, 6th at 4CC, very respectable given his former headcasing tendencies - and I have high hopes for his future. Shu Nakamura and Daichi Miyata will also turn senior next season, and even though they haven't done so well in junior competitions, they might become very fine senior skaters (think about Tatsuki Machida's career!). It's difficult to make any predictions in figure skating, of course, but I'm optimistic about Japanese men's future. :agree:

I don't know much about jumping techniques, but people say his technique is bad- as bad as Kanakos. And "artistry" is subjective. He hasn't won anything yet and he is already 18 yo. I just don't believe he can do "big" things.
